It's Always Something

Yesterday I took my car in to diagnose the coolant system problem. The good news is that they were able to temporarily fix it by bleeding the system--getting air pockets out--and they didn't charge me for it \O/. The bad news is that it is only temporary and various parts, mostly rubber stuff that is deteriorating, that are old and soggy will need replacing very soon. All for roughly $800-1000 (eight hundred to one thousand dollars) including labor--fixing them all will be an all day project. There is oil in the coolant reservoir (I thought it was rust) and both are mixing and leaking/dripping outside the engine. He said that so far the oil is still ok, but eventually the coolant is going to start leaking into it. He didn't flush the radiator because that would have caused more problems.

Apparently, I've lucked out so far by simply not driving it as much as the average person (it's 9 years old and has 76,000 miles on it). Yesterday's solution will not last through the winter and I have to figure out how to somehow come up with the money to fix it in the next couple months.
