I've been torturing myself by reading the stories herewas having a bit of a cry & jed came in & we talked a bit about empathy. i am *very* empathetic and tend to get very emotional about things. whereas he said his first reaction (to the fires) was "Thank god it's not me" and then "what would i do to make sure it didn't happen to me

Whoa! I haven't been great about watching or reading the news lately, but I'm sad to say I had no idea about the fires.

black saturday was a year ago tho. worst natural disaster in australian history.

it was awful. there's lots of news & anniversary stuff on at the moment, so it's all a bit raw still.

I'm ridiculously empathetic as well. Stupidly so. Hah. It can be annoying.

Empathy is a good thing, and Jed's reaction is a very good thing too. Don't worry, mate, much bigger, uglier maler-males than the both of us having been sobbing on my shoulder in the past year about that day, and we ALL have been carrying that odd little niggling burning sensation of guilt and relief that it wasn't us. Altho with Madz sitiation it was far too close to home, and now with Tanya and Shar living in a fire zone, it's made me edgy as hell all through summer.
