had an absolutely wonderful ride on beejay last night. appears his brain has settled a bit by all the forward work we've been doing.
anyway, paul came out to admire his lights. i must admit, they are very impressive. i know lights on arena's are old news to most of you north americans, but we aussies do it tough in the dark here, lol. i've been with horses for 27 years and this is the FIRST TIME i have ever had an opportunity to ride at night... with LIGHTS! omg. he's got old street lights that he mysteriously procured from someone he knows & they're quite good. he's put 2 in the arena- one at each end, one at the wash bay, one at the round yard & one at the carpark near my tack shed. they take a little while to 'heat up' but they're pretty good. MUCH improved to pottering around in the dark for years! i really should take a photo cos it looks very peaceful and lovely.
so paul & his friend _____ (forgot his name, small irish guy) were there. paul says to me, "i heard that beejy's on the market" (in beejay's presence, no less - i haven't told him yet, LOL) and i said, "yes, well... not advertised, but i've got my ear to the ground & am putting the word out"
and paul went on for a while about how horses are meant to be fun & how you should be able to just get on and go etc etc. i told him i'd bought a pony - haven't had a chance to tell him that yet, and he was very supportive, especially when he found out he was a sensible standy!
i then asked paul if he saw it (selling beejay) coming. he laughed & said, "about a year ago... at least!"
hrm...
anyway. so i was a bit nervous because paul & _____ were watching me ride (well, more like watching their wonderful lights that i happened to be riding under).
but beej was VERY settled! none of this jig jogging shit/tail swishing and general unhappiness. we w/t/c very happily all over the arena - spirals, yielding, w/halt, t/halt & some lame attempts at canter/halt/canter transitions (he's actually QUITE good at that - cos he moves off my leg so well, i'm sure).
...
also saw tazzie before i saw beej. man that horse is adorable!!! he's in a little 'herd' of 4 horses now - a grey tb mare being let down after racing, a chestnut anglo that's on the market (SUPER nice horse! but VERY obnoxious!) & a little chestnut warmblood yearling. poor tazzie is on the outer a bit. he's not on the bottom of the pecking order as far as i can tell, but the anglo is boss.
anyway. i got there & called out & by the time i've unloaded all my shit tazzie manages to get to the gate where i am. i don't keep anything on the property as it's got a very public frontage, plus there is the risk of pigeon's pooping on anything left sitting still long enough.
gave tazzie some dinner (he gets micro fed because he's on grazing, and is fat) & a good groom. hacked off half his mane with the trimming blade & trimmed his bridle & saddle path. i must admit, taz's tail is AMAZING. i'll have to get some pics for you. it's thick and luscious and full and just fantastic.
after dinner we went for a quick walk around the paddock to check on things. i fiddled with a bit of fencing for a while (there's this random fence in the middle of the paddock & it had fallen over, so i rolled it up... this paddock is a FHOTD expose waiting to happen!).
and how good is tazzie???? VERY good. i dropped the lead & he just stood there for the 10 mins it took me to fiddle with the fence. dunno if he's trained to ground tie (must be?) but he is SO good like that - he'll be great in breed shows because he can stand like a STATUE if he needs to. he doesn't even try to eat or anything. first horse i've had that does that.
anyway.
in non-horsey news, i have been enjoying my easter VERY MUCH. also have 2 weeks of holidays following. going down south next week. might have a horse show this weekend coming, have 2 parties (one on 19th, one the saturday after). quite a busy time.
going to this 'easter dance' tonight with rhiannon, kirstie & jo. it's at my friend patrick's Anglo Indian club. they have these WICKED dances with old time music, so lots of jiving, jiggling, bopping and gyrating will be had. so much fun! a couple of other ppl from work will be there, including Mr Anal Retentive, Sam (the dick i car pool with... nice guy, but ANAL! omg. *is ded from all the anal*)
hahahaha.
er, anyway.
so i made some Spring Rolls for it. Rhiannon came over last night to help roll them. Jed was also very proud of himself & made some yummy curry type mixture so we experimenting with TRYING to make samosas - but it was too fucking hard, so just ended up rolling them like spring rolls instead. i've wrapped them & will cook them up tonight just before we leave. also made a Sweet & Sour sauce for it as well... and it WORKED. fuck me.
going to cook up some new mix before i go tho & have some meat - the ones i made last night are totally vego.
anyways.
gotta ride beejy today as well. fuck, too many things to do!
