If you died but didn’t know you were dead, would you care? For instance, you are driving home from a late night at the coffee palace and you race home to see your wife and rear-end your friend whom walked away. You don’t know this happened, you have no reason to believe anything went wrong. In your mind you go home and see your wife who knows nothing of what happened. You enjoy the night, make love to her and go to bed.
When you wake up you see your guardian angel. You think what are you doing in my house? Why are you here? The angel doesn’t speak but shows you the crash the night before. You see your own body as a part of the car. Even the real people, on the scene have a hard time distinguishing where you end and the car begins. There is no question you are dead! You see your parents and siblings standing there crying. Your wife is hysterical; she, like you, cannot believe her eyes.
You fast forward to see your wife’s life five years from now. She is with a chauvinist jerk and she is miserable. She thought long and hard about suicide after you died but moved on to this guy anybody would assume is great. After she fell in love he changed and showed his true colors. Again she is miserable.
Now, you see that same crash but you’re not quite killed. You are in truly bad shape and again your wife is hysterical. After a few months of merciless rehabilitation you are on your feet and walking. By the end of the year you are ship shape.
Now there is no fast forward to see how your life would have been had you survived. All you know is that you have a one time free ticket to heaven that you can trade in to live with your wife and have another chance. You could wined up in hell if you go back. If you choose life, this whole night’s scrooge like event is nowhere in memory. You wake up in a hospital bed hurting from every part of your body like you’ve never hurt before.
Given these circumstances what do you do? Why? If it were me, I’d choose life. As much as I want to go to heaven I couldn’t imagine doing that to the one I love.
