Yuletide 2010 Recs

This was my first year doing Yuletide, and it was awesome. I wrote two stories, and, better yet, I received an amazing gift in my stocking Christmas morning. THANK YOU Yuletide writer!

Moonlighting

Synchronized Swimming
I received this absolutely wonderful Moonlighting story, and I could not be more thrilled. This fic is full of snarky bickering, sexual tension, and clever writing, and it just NAILS the Maddie/David dynamic. Here's a little snippet to whet your appetite:

Good point. We need urban camouflage. Or suburban camouflage. What's that like, a cable-knit sweater and golf pants?" David looked thoughtful. "Hey, at least the camera's waterproof; we just got water with our proof. Success is sweet." David pulled back the covers and slipped into bed. Maddie flinched as his bare leg slid against hers. "Hey, it's alright. You can touch me. I'm not poison oak."

"Ya got that right," Maddie's voice was muffled. "Poison oak is quiet."

What are you waiting for? Go read it!

30 Rock

Happiness Is...
Kenneth helps out Liz, Jenna, and Tracy with their Christmas shopping in a hilariously on-the-nose Kenneth voice.

The Peanut Butter Incident
Liz and Jack go on a pseudo-date. The dialogue here is perfect and funny and I love how this story walks the line between their normal snarky relationship and the hint of something more between them without crossing it.

Arrested Development

Love is Strange, or: How George Michael Learned to Stop Worrying and Love His Cousin
I will never get enough of the cousin lovin'. Here we have George Michael and Maebe post-series, in college, and still attracted to each other. It's surprisingly hot.

Community

Creative (Non)Fiction
I've seen a lot of recs for this story, and they're so deserved. This story is funny and just the right amount of meta, and has a strong voice for every character. And it's Abed writing fanfiction about the group! How can you not love that.

History of Film
The group does a bunch of different genres, and it's awesome and hilarious and so them.

Special Seminar in Romantic Comedy
I haven't read much Troy/Abed that I really buy, because I think it's hard to really write their voices in a relationship, but this story? Awesome. Fabulous ensemble, too.

Futurama

The Power of the Coffee-Bringers
This story tells the genesis of Kif and Zapp's weird, co-dependent little relationship. It's funny and a surprisingly realistic take on their Kif/Zapp thing.

Hunger Games

Out of the Night: An Interview with a Mockingjay
This is a post-series story catching up with Peeta and Kat, written in a unique journalistic style which both mutes and underlines the sadness at the end of Mockingbird.

Two of us
This is a dark and sad take on Madge/Katniss, which is a pair I would never have thought of before reading this story.

Scott Pilgrim

Strangely Patriotic
This story has Ramona, Knives, and Kim road-tripping and being awesome together. The story is laced with the same straight-laced absurdity that was found in the comics, and it's so delightfully Canadian.
