Anna had troops on the ground. It was aftermath from the destruction of her eggs. Governments across the world had agreed that the Vs needed more protection. Anna hadn't really made it an option either after her little temper tantrum ( Read more... )

Juliet sees it as soon as he points, and she's unbuckling her seat belt as soon as she realizes.

She runs to the car and looks through the broken window. "Erica!"

The other woman is slumped down over the steering wheel and Juliet reaches in to check for a pulse. She's relieved to find one, then carefully opens the door and reaches over to turn off the vehicle.

"Erica, can you hear me?" It's a little weird to see her near clone bloody and unconscious, but she can't focus on it. She looks at the damage, a cut on her forehead, but the way she hit the steering wheel - the damn air bag didn't go off - has Juliet concerned. Putting her hands around Erica's neck, Juliet keeps it as still as possible as she leans her back into the seat again.

The other woman's breathing is ragged and shallow, and Juliet needs to get her out of the car. She has to get her out of the car. And she can hear sirens already. Trying to think as a doctor first and a friend later, Juliet makes an executive decision and as carefully as she can pulls Erica out of her car before running back to Joshua and throwing open the passenger side door.

"I need..." she opens the glove compartment and starts rummaging. She comes back out with hand sanitizer, a pocket knife, and a ziplock baggie. She's gone again without saying anything else and pulls open Erica's shirt, hoping the woman doesn't care about modesty in lieu of saving her life.

She's gone before he can say anything so he settles on raising an eyebrow at her. He'd help her if it weren't for their two sleeping children whom he'd have to roust and carry with him. Carrying his offspring on his back is not an option. He's a lizard not an possum. And at any rate, the middle of a V crash is likely the last place he needs to be. Though he's not sure if Juliet working on Erica is going to be just as disasterous when those medical vehicles arrive. Still she's not wanting and the worst that might happen is Anna might figure out Erica has a lookalike while the worst would be that they lose Erica. It's a little different to be on this side of the drama, but his appreciation for his wife is only increasing. He's been on the receiving end of the more direct part of her personality, but he was too far gone to remember it. It's something else entirely to see it now as he is.

Juliet has never done this, has only heard of it working, and she's praying to whatever's out there to not let her kill Erica. She yells at a man who passes by and calls him over. "Hey! I need your help, come on," she says, and he kneels. "In about twenty seconds, this bag is going to be over her chest. I'm going to need you to hold it until the paramedics come, alright?"

The poor man nods, not realizing what's about to happen.

Pouring hand sanitizer all over her hands, Erica's chest, and the pocket knife, Juliet opens the knife up and grips it in her fist. Now the man starts panicking. "Jesus Christ lady, what are you doing?" Juliet ignores him, and after running her fingers along a spot on Erica's body, forces the knife into her chest. Pulling it out quickly, she pushes the bag over her chest and the woman's breathing starts to come back to normal.

"Hold the bag," she tells the man. "Whatever you do, don't let go of it until the paramedic tells you to." She waits until he nods, then runs to another car to help anyone else who might be hurt. Eventually she makes her way back to Erica though, the medics taping down the bag. She tells them that she did it, that she had to make a decision and that yes, she was a doctor.

When they wheel her away, Juliet stands there, adrenaline still pumping, but as news reporters start to set up camp, she makes her way quickly to the car, because the last thing she needs is her face all over the t.v.

Joshua's watched the whole thing from the relative safety of their car. No prying eyes with cameras. He's worried about Erica, but there's nothing he can do. Juliet obviously has it covered. And from the distance of their car, he can't see what's going on. Eventually paramedics show up and take over and he can see her talking to them. Erica doesn't leave in a body bag and it's really the best he can hope for at this point. Hopefully she'll receive the Anna treatment again or maybe Lisa can work something out for her.

He watches Juliet make a timely retreat just as the media vehicles are arriving. Traffic is slowly starting to clear up as damaged vehicles are pushed to the side. As she gets closer, he jumps out of the car and into the driver side. He motions for her take the passenger side, the door still open for her. Probably the last thing she wants to do is get Erica's blood all over the steering wheel.

Juliet gets into the car, sighing softly. "Can you hand me the diaper bag before you start driving, please?" She can at least wipe off her hands.

"If they can get her into surgery quickly she should be okay. But they have to get her to the hospital now." She's eying the ambulance as she speaks, and suddenly it's leaving and she sighs again. "She's going to be okay."

Wiping off her hands she looks over at him and she has to say it. "It's not us this time. That's new."

As he pulls the diaper bag to the front seat, he raises an eyebrow at her. "You're scary sometimes," he says with a half smirk on his face.

"Scary in an incredible way," he's adding as they're waved forward by a traffic cop. "She's going to owe you again," he adds after a moment's thought.

Reaching over to rest her hand on his knee, she looks over at him. "I've never done that before. I've never even..." She could have killed her.

"Well, she just has to babysit any time we want now," she says with a little smile. Twisting back, she looks at the sleeping kids. "I can't believe they didn't even wake up."

He takes her hand in his own and intertwines his fingers with hers. He smiles, but he doesn't take his eyes off the road.

When she mentions the kids, he glances into the rearview mirror for a moment. "Not a peep." He smiles at her comment that Erica will have to babysit any time they want. It reminds him of those favors Hobbes had been counting. He doubts the man has forgotten them.

When they finally get home, Juliet helps him with the kids and that's when Elizabeth chooses to wake up. She blinks sleepily up at Joshua, her head lolling against her car seat.

"Daddy, the aminals..."

Juliet smirks, carefully pulling Jonah out of his car seat.

"Hey Lizzy," he says, quietly to her. "Did you enjoy those animals?"

He unbuckles her and pulls her out of her car seat too. "Which one was your favorite?"

Because it's easier for Juliet to maneuver the front door, she lets them into the house and starts leading the way upstairs to the bedrooms.

Liz rests her head on Joshua's shoulder, one hand resting on the back of his neck and the thumb of her other hand in her mouth.

"Elpants. And bearfs." Her eyes close; she's very nearly asleep again as they talk.

He enjoys talking to his daughter. And when she gets sleepy, he talks to her in a quiet way, his voice rumbling through his chest, until she falls asleep. He changes her into her pajamas and kisses her on her forehead as he tucks her in for the night.

Meanwhile, Juliet feeds Jonah and he's awake even so from sleeping all day at the zoo. Taking her with him to the master bedroom, she waits on Joshua so that they can take turns holding him and getting undressed for bed.

The wonderful thing about Jonah is that he'll lay quiet, he won't cry at all unless he needs to be fed or changed. Laying back, she nestles him on her chest and runs her fingers lightly over the top of his head. And when she hears Joshua, she looks up. "She asleep?"

"Yeah," he replies, distracted by his cell phone for a moment. It's a message from Hobbes, letting him know that Erica is fine and that Joshua owes him three times now for the text. It makes Joshua smile. He's definitely growing on Kyle.

"Erica's good," he says, stepping out of his shoes.

Juliet sighs in relief. "Good." Then she repeats it quieter. Looking over at him, runs her free hand over her face. "What a damn day." She's quiet for a minute, listening to Jonah make soft baby sounds before speaking again.

"I miss it sometimes. Practicing, I mean."

He's using the moment to get ready for bed, taking off his pants and his shirt. He usually doesn't bother with an undershirt unless it's a dressy occasion. It doesn't help that he wore a uniform for so long and then whatever was coolest after that and then back to the uniform. Some things just stick with you. So he pulls out a clean shirt to wear to bed.

"I'd miss it," he replies as he heads to the bathroom to brush his teeth.

A few minutes later and he's climbing into bed next to her. "I'd miss it, but then I was born for the medical life."
