Discussion 2 is about a really dry video with a good point. Only video I have watched for this class so I took a bit and went with it.
To me this has been the video that has made me think the most. For anyone that has had more then one Womens studies class has had the sex vs gender discussion, but this video laid it all out pretty cut and dry. Sex is biologically what defines you as male or female this is what the medical world uses as a definite lines. Where as gender is about how you define yourself and how society defines you. Gender however can also be the role we chose to play in society. For example someone who cross dresses because they feel more biologically one sex or another, they are choosing to change there gender to meet what they feel is biological.
I do not however agree with the concept of Homophobia form the video. It is ignorance that perpetuates the myths that feed the fire of homophobia. If you make the choice not to know or educate yourself then you are choosing to remain labeled as such. Your ignorance shows in more then one way.
all in all I think we play more active then passive roles in this gender game. Self definition is equally as important as social and societal roles. We are more then just a passive audience to society but rather active players as well.
