Canoes and crazy dogs

Hope everyone had a great weekend. Yesterday me, Dan, Brooke, Tommy, and Rob were going to go fishing at Cocoa Beach, but it was raining there, so we decided to do something else. Well, we didn't really "decide", because we really didn't know what we wanted to do. We wanted to try to go canoeing at Wekiva Springs, but we kind of got lost on the way there and couldn't make it before 5:00, when they stopped renting out the boats. It was kind of my fault that we got lost because I thought I knew a shortcut that turned into a very unecessary detour. Both Tommy and I called 411 from our cell phones, because we were trying to find out when the park closed. Both of our 411 services suck. I was driving while I called, and the damn thing didn't even connect me to the number. A computer voice read the number once and then hung up. When Tommy called his 411 (nextel) the operator hung up on him--probably by accident. Then he called back, but I think they gave him the wrong number because it just rang and rang and finally disconnected him. It was pretty funny actually. We decided to stop at a place called River Quest Kayaks, because we figured they'd know when the park stopped renting out canoes. It was 5:00 and they told us the park stopped renting out at 5:00... Our plans were quickly dying before our eyes. The 5 of us were relinquished to throwing out random ideas on what to do next. Actually, the only other ideas anyone could come up with were: go see a movie, go get beer, go eat, or go to Justin's and watch a movie (since I have all the good movies...whatever). We decided to go eat at Gator's Dockside, then go back to my place to either play video games or watch a movie. Gator's was ok, although the food wasn't very good. We got back to my apartment at around 6:30 and watched Tears of the Sun. Good stuff. Later on that night me and Dan went to Brooke's friend's house, actually her parent's house, to go swimming. Well, I didn't go swimming, I stayed in the hot tub. There was a little frog swimming in the pool that I found very entertaining, as did everyone else.
On Saturday me and Dan went to Brooke's house in Bithlo. It was in the middle of no where, which I found to be very cool since it was extremely peaceful. The only catch is that there are many many rednecks that live in Bithlo. That's not so bad, I guess, since rednecks are probably a little misunderstood, what with their cofederate hats, jacked up trucks, and cowbow boots. We got there around 10pm, but before arriving Dan told me not to touch the dog. The dog's name is Xena, but Dan calls her Stinky, since she smells really, really bad. I'm not sure what kind of dog she is, but she's definitely a large dog, with floppy ears and long, shaggy black fur. She immediately started barking at me, but kept her distance since Dan was keeping her satisfied petting her and such. When we went inside, I felt like the dog was trying to warm up to me, so I stuck my fist out for her to smell. Dan couldn't understand why I'd hold my fist out instead of my hand. I told him that if she was going to bite me, I'd much rather have her bite my fist rather than my fingers. Plus, I read somehwere that it's not smart to hold out your hand to a strange dog since they might think your fingers are something for their teeth. Hence, the idea of holding out your fist. Supposedly, it's less threatening. Well, it didn't work for this dog. Just before she went after my hand, she got this extrememly evil look on her face and in her eyes. It was kind of cool, actually. She must have known she did something bad, because both Brooke and Dan yelled at her and grabbed at her. She immediately digressed and proceeded to pant happily, rolling over to let Dan rub her belly. A few minutes later, she walked up to me and eyed my hand. This time, however, she seemed to be happy and started to lick my fist as if to apologize. Later on, while watching "Cheaters", Stinky wouldn't leave me alone. I was sitting on the couch, leaning forward with my hands resting on my knees. She walked up to me, sat in front of me, and began to nudge my hands with her nose. I guess that was an invitation, because I started to pet her head without any fuss from her. Dan kept saying how nervous he was that she was going to attack me, but she seemed content. Every time I stopped petting her she'd nudge my hands again. Stinky must be very manipulative, though, because after I stopped petting her, she still was sitting in front of me. I held out my hand again, and again she got the same look on her face and nipped at it. Damn animals. I don't think I petted her for the rest of the time.
Tommy and Rob both agreed that we should try the canoe idea next weekend. Either that, or take a day to go to Busch Gardens in Tampa since seasonal passes aren't very expensive. I haven't been to Islands of Adventure in a while, though. Last time I went was for UCF night, and there were TONS of college students there. We only got to ride The Hulk and Spiderman.
In any case, I'm sure we'll do whatever is cheapest.
