'Tis the Season

God, the last three days have been absolutely batshit crazy. I spent almost three straight days making my mom's Christmas present (which is, by the way, completely awesome, and I have included pictures of it under the cut below), I wrapped more than 50 presents (not all from me, some from the rest of my family to other family members), and I went cat-sitting.

The cat-sitting was actually lots of fun. It's two cats, Bob and Nala, who are both black, but Bob is super fat and Nala is this skinny psycho kitten. Bob's favorite pastimes include lying still and biting Nala's feet, while Nala enjoys laser tag (involving a laser pointer and lots of stalking/chasing) and jumping at the wall for no good reason. They're a pretty interesting.

I've been watching some old home movies of me and my sister while I wrapped presents, and can I just say - I take it back, I really am cute? Because damn, I really am. I keep looking at three-year-old me and going "Awwwwww!" It's sickening. But I just watched the Blizzard of '93 (Haha, here in NC, blizzard=less than two feet of snow. Yay Southern life!) and several Christmases and birthdays in a row, and it was quite entertaining and cavity-inducingly sweet.

Tomorrow I go to the German grandparent's house for Christmas Eve celebration/present time, only this year I'm rebelling a little and wearing jeans instead of a stupid skirt. Mostly because I really hate skirts, and my jeans are really comfortable, but also because I want to freak Grandma out a bit, and I figure that jeans combined with the blue/purple hair will do it.

But now to share something I'm really proud of - my mother's Christmas present!

Well, my mom is just as obsessed with The Golden Compass as I am, so I decided to make her something...unique this year. An armored bear.

I was going to try to make Iorek or Iofur (or whatever they renamed him in the movie), but I figured out that I couldn't do that with what I had on hand, so it's just a generic armored bear. I'll let her name him herself.

He's made entirely with signboard (like you'd find on those signs people wire to chain-link fences), silver paint-pens, clear nail polish, super glue, and leather. Took me almost three days, but I'm pretty proud of it.

(Please ignore the mess).

And now it is time for me to go to bed so my grandmother doesn't have an excuse to yell at me about the bags under my eyes tomorrow.
