Apparently I am unemployable.

Today has not been a good day in terms of paid work! I've recieved two seperate rejection emails, one from a school which had advertised for summer canteen staff and the other from... Mcdonalds. Again. I have now failed their application process three times in a row, oh dear. Though on the plus side, at least I don't have to work at Mcdonalds. Unfortunately it also means I will remain skint.

So, assuming that none of the other positions I've applied for will come through, I've applied for a couple of volunteering positions, one with the British Heart Foundation and one with the Redgate Animal Sanctuary, both to work in a shop. I figured that I *could* carry on applying to things all summer and never get anywhere because I'm only available for two months and hardly anyone wants that, but it was a bit pointless. I'd rather actually do something this summer so it doesn't look like I've just been sitting on my arse. Plus then I can say I've had retail experience which might be handy next year, seeing as no one wants to hire shop assistants who haven't already had experience. It definitely WILL be a bit of a blow if the charity shops don't want me either though; then I'll DEFINITELY be unemployable. Hah.

Slowly building my cake empire, I made buttercream roses for the first time on Tuesday. Considering it was not only the first time I've ever tried to make roses, but also the first time I've ever used a piping bag, I don't think they turned out too badly!

Not too shabby for a first attempt, eh? The family and the Anton were all pretty impressed, asides from my layabout brother who I don't think even noticed the cupcakes had roses on, then proceeded to drop his on the floor. Oh I am unappreciated *dramatic pose*.

Next up: biscuits with pretty piped icing. Hoping to make the dough tomorrow morning so it can sit in the fridge til whenever I get time to actually bake and ice. I'm thinking themed around The Cure, I don't know why. I think I just fancy lyric biscuits, plus it would be a good opportunity to practice my detailed piping skills. I'm hoping to make some old-fashioned looking silhouette cookies soon so detailed piping skills would be a good idea!

volunteering, baking, lucy = epic fail
