Just back from Scotland...
where I had a fabulous time. I was in Edinburgh for 1 1/2 days (lost a day to the new security craziness) but was able to see some of the Fringe festival, including a play, and end the day with a Litterary Pub Crawl that ended at Sandy Bell's.
The next stop was Ballater (Deeside) for the remainder of the stay. From there, we drove (on the left, mind you!
) to Inverness/Culloden, all the way to Eilann Donan, Kingussie, Tomintoul, Stonehaven/Aberdeen (over the course of the week.) I fell in love with the Cairngorms and the beautiful patchwork of purple heather and deep green pine trees. We saw castles, a highland life museum, visited a distillery and sampled the goods
, and even found a stone circle thanks to the advice of a very kind local woman.
On the last day, we went back to Edinburgh and South to the
Innerleithen Festival (very nice little festival, extremely friendly and helpful organizers. I highly recommend it) where
Andy M. Stewart was playing for the first time in almost two years. The evening was fabulous and Andy completely on top of his game, just as if he had never stopped performing. Kudos also to
Cross Current, a very nice Trad group with members coming from all corners of the UK. To crown it all, I finally got a copy of
Andy's songbook, which he kindly autographed. Always the class act and showing the utmost respect for his public... No matter how persistent they can be...!
Now back to the Whisky Tasting Game, Home Edition...
