On a day in January

I was out driving just before sunrise today. Between rosy banks of cloud in the East was a beautiful crescent moon. There are many months when I catch the New Moon hanging in the West with an evening star nearby and it is breathtaking, but the waning crescent is more elusive, it seems. Ah, well, all the more special for that.

Speaking of the cycles of things, it seems I am growing more appreciative of Winter again. It's not exactly the same as when I was a child when it was all sparkly lights and wonderland; it feels like it's something more elemental and mysterious these days. Underneath the wonderland, that is. If only I weren't so uncomfortable in the cold!

But I have a lovely new thing I found at L. L. Bean - it's a hooded sweat jacket, but it's lined in some very soft fleecy stuff, it weighs at least twice as much as a normal sweat jacket, and it's wonderfully warm. I've got to go back there and get one for my daughter - she gets cold too.

I should look for some fuzzy boots while I'm at it.

winter, moon
