So two weeks ago I participated in the Austin Marathon, at the half distance. That would be 13.1 miles for those playing at home.
Around mile 10 I felt a sharp pain in my right foot. Now sharp pain is generally never a good thing. Sharp means acute injury. I was close enough to the end of the race I elected to finish. Would I have had a client finish? No. But as pointed out, I'm a bit on the stubborn side. So I finished.
Since then, I've had on again and off again pain. I had a feeling I knew what it was. Yesterday I went to the doc. Diagnosis, stress fracture of the big toe. I'm ticked, but not shocked. I don't need to do anything new but wear supportive shoes. (Which I hate). I also need to avoid high impact exercise for the next 4 weeks. There's not much to do but rest it.
*sigh* So I'm out of training for the Flying Pig half marathon in Cincy this May. I've missed curling the past two weekends because I can't stand on the ice safely.
The sad thing is, I'd still do the race and still finish it. The joys of being slightly stubborn. ;)
