So the month of February officially sucked. The less said, the better. Some times you just gotta run with things and keep focused on getting your feet back under you as quick as you can.

Mine aren't totally there yet, but I am a goodly bit more upright. Nuff said on that.

Apparently someone put in an order for rain and wind today. With a side of thunder. Given that I was anticipating a little wind, no wet, we can safely say I'm not pleased with what the kitchen has ordered up for me. Waiter! There's a thunderstorm in my forecast. Where's the manager? This means no trip to the farmers market for me today. So I'll end up hitting Whole Paychecks later on. Yeah I know, first world problems right?

I've added in a new reading project for myself. I'm reading through a Shakespeare play a month. Last month was Merchant of Venice. It's an incredibly funny play when you read it. (So long as you understand it's 500 years old and working off a different moral and ethical model). This makes it a bit jarring when you watch the production and see how it's been edited to fit with modern perceptions. Because of the strong anti-Semitic streak in the play, many of the funniest lines are pulled out in order to change the tone of the production. Heck, you have to look for it under Drama, and not Comedy which is what it originally was. It's an interesting snapshot back to that period in time. As you'd expect, it's got me curious so I'm off digging up other books on Jews in the 1500s. There were no Jews in England at that point in time.  So the character of Shylock is a classic stereotype when you read the original work. My question is, where did Shakespeare pull that particular stereotype from?

The librarians at my local branch love me. I wander in with all kinds of odd ball requests. It gives them a nice change of pace.

Anyway, so Merchant of Venice is done, next up Othello. (Notice the subtle Venice kick I'm on to get things started?)
