The last three days have largely featured my slobbing around in jammy bottoms when I haven't been wrapped up in my duvet. Seems a shame as the sun's out and there's a beach 50 yards away from our front door. If that's the only fluey virus thing I get this year I'll be happy.
Oh yep... an update is necessary, I think.
Here goes:
I investigated transferring to a store up in Edinburgh; didn't quite come off, despite a lot of interest. Investigated a rival company and immediate choice of interviews came up - and out of two interviews, I was offered both. So, before even leaving for Minneapolis for Christmas I had a new job, in a new city lined up. Which meant an almighty rush to find somewhere to park our belongings, in addition to helping Number One son spread his wings.
Unfortunately..
In early November, we had to rush down to my parent's house as my dad was rushed into hospital with dangerously low bloods. My neice was closer and was able to care for my mum until our 2 and half (read: 4) hour drive got us there. My big sis was coming from the other end of the country so was going to be a while. I was shocked at my mum's condition - the deterioration in her mental abilities was shocking and my 84 year old dad had been managing on his own. To cut a not-so-long story short, my dad got out of hospital, my mum was rushed in and within days died suddenly one morning.
It's been hard, sure, but harder by far on my dad, who's been battling his own illness as well as coping with losing his wife of 62 years. Words fail me. And he downplayed it so our move would continue. So here we are, living in Portobello, having shed most of the contents of a 3 bed house in order to cram ourselves into a 2 bed (furnished) flat, currently continuing a Good Wife marthon...
