Derby

So the month of March has been the beginning of my Derby chapter. Back on March 6, I went to see the Charlotte Roller Girls in a bout against the Carolina Bootleggers. The CLTRG kicked ass, and I fell in love with this sport that I hadn't watched since I was a kid. The atmosphere was just phenomenal.

I had to go to the meet n greet on the 15th! When I got there, I was nothing but smiles. I was very anxious to get signed up and get all my gear. I spent the night filling out paperwork, copying my insurance, and talking to Chris at Kate's Skate Rink about equipment. I didn't even watch the scrimmage because I was just taking it all in. I left there completely ready to go and called my Dad and told him I was super excited that my health insurance finally came in handy! (You need it in order to play.) I also met some really kool girls and ended up skating with them Wednesday.

I've been skating around the duplex trying to get used to my skates. I've gone to two official practices and skated 2 more times on my own (Wednesdays.) So far my skates aren't giving me any problems in terms of blisters so that's good. I've had a couple of good falls as I'm adjusting to quad skates. I'm pretty sure I laugh almost every time I fall, but at least I try to get my ass back up quickly!

You don't get to submit a derby name until you've gone to 20 practices, but my Dad's been helping me come up with some possibilities. Let me know your thoughts:

Catch Her in the Rye
Slam Her in the Rye
Smash Her in the Rye
Killer in the Rye
Bash her in the Rye
Pound her in the Rye
Pummel Her in the Rye

I'm so excited to be a part of a team again, to be a part of an athletic atmosphere, to meet people, to learn something new, to have a challenge, etc. I love that it gets me off my ass. I love that it's getting me out of my shell.

Now that derby is my new obsession, please let me know if I become annoying about it lol

There is a double header on April 10th and I'm coming back from Ohio/Spring Break to go. You should come if you're in the area! Tickets are available online and at the Common Market.
