I finally got started working in the yard this week. I spent a couple of hours yesterday weeding boxes. Today Michael and I topped off and fertilized about 3/4 of the beds. I planted most of the handful of annuals for the herb bed, and we're still waiting to see if the curry and the pineapple sage come back. I got the native shade garden replanted as well - two ferns and the stream violet lives, the wild gingers didn't make it, and the bunchberry looks like crap but might pull through. I added a trillium, a starry false-solomon's seal, and two red columbines.
I pulled out all of the bird baths too. We'll have to see if we can get the solar pump fixed for the one bird bath - it was pretty popular among the birds & bugs last year! I also replanted the three mini-planter boxes that will hang in the "alley" in the backyard - miniature thymes & mints, so there are a couple of sensory components back there. I haven't yet found the little glass art bits I had hanging back there. Hopefully they'll turn up soon. I also cleared out a bunch of the dead vines & stalks that didn't decompose over winter, cleared out the stakes we *koff* forgot to bring in over autumn, and pulled some ivy.
Tomorrow (or maybe the next day) will be drawing up this year's garden plan so I remember what went/goes where, planting spinach and bok choi starts, planting all sorts of seeds, and maybe starting on yanking the morning glory. I'm so not looking forward to dealing with that damned morning glory.
I need to find a new non-electronic weather station for the yard as mine finally died from UV exposure. I knew it wouldn't take terribly long, but I'm sad anyway. Actually, part of it is still good - I should just cobble together good versions of all the parts I want, since I can't find a durable pre-assembled station like I want.
Maybe tomorrow will be working on the Little Free Library too. I just need to find the paint I bought and make the stencil.
