new addition to the family

We have a new addition to the family. Meet Tucker!

He's a five-year-old shorthair mix we adopted from the county shelter. They say he's pretty easy-going and needs to be in a home with another friendly cat. Which is pretty cool because we have a friendly cat who really needs a buddy. OTOH, the princess kitty will just have to deal with sharing her realm with a new cat.

So far, he's still spending a lot of time hiding under the bed (five days now) with slowly-increasing forays through the house. Tonight he let M pet him, and he's looking like he really wants to be friends with Black Kitty. Black Kitty seems to be returning the favor.

Tucker has the smallest, highest little squeak of a meow. He sounds more like a tiny kitten. Or a squeaky toy. He's also a good-sized cat - big without being fat. I like that he's a big, grown cat. Even with being "easy-going", it suggests he'll stand up to the other cats' shenanigans. I was a bit worried about that when we were talking about adopting a kitten.

We're guessing he was a housecat for a significant portion of his life. He's pretty darned healthy and was happy to get pets when we first visited him. No idea what happened in between - the county says they trapped him outside and brought him to the shelter. No idea how long he was outside or how he got there.

Hopefully he'll get more comfortable soon.
