Garden Hopes

FH and I have been working hard in our yards. Thanks to roguespark, mine is fairly well whipped into shape for the moment. A little more weeding, a few more veggie plants, some branch lopping, and I'm basically set for a few months. After putting in a couple of blueberry bushes a few weeks ago, and with a ton of rain and cold since then, FH was pleased to finally get his corn planted. Hopefully the weather won't get/stay too wacky on us (despite having seen hail today!), giving the corn a chance to grow. We're also slowly getting the backyard into shape after a bit of neglect (and rampant blackberries, ivy, and a nasty start of holly behind and next to his house). If we can just get a handle on the blackberries and his iron-work gazebo that collapsed last winter under the weight of all the snow we had, the front and back yards will look fantastic for the wedding. It seems really late to get so much of the gardens going, and yet every time we'd think it had passed, another frost would come. One of my veggie goals this year: to get at least one big bowl of salsa (enough for four people to have a real snack) straight from the garden. Last year we had enough tomatoes and even hot peppers. Hopefully this year we'll also have the bell peppers and onions to go in it. Maybe we'll even be able to add some corn to it!
