Torchwood 2x02: Sleeper

Spoilers for this episode, obviously and probably comments related to what I know about the whole season within:

Well I kind of suspected that this ep wouldn't get my heart pounding quite as much as the premiere, but it was definitely most enjoyable, and a good story.

First I just want to say something as the American girl that I am:  This episode made me realize that people in Britain don't have baseball bats.  And it's totally not uncommon for people to keep them in their bedrooms.  Either for special display, or self defense, or as Jack implied...

Anyways,  John's new voiceover for the opener made me giggle.  Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore The Barrow and he's the reason I came to the party, but so many times I'm waiting for him to burst into song after he's delivered a line.  I do believe Jack is like that, it just makes me giggle.

I loved the scene with Gwen and Owen in the hospital (he watches Murder, She Wrote? He's such an old man in a young boy's body).  He and Gwen have gotten over their tryst and become more like siblings and that's an enjoyable dynamic to watch.  He leaves her to do the dirty work under false pretenses, yet agrees to fetch her a cup of coffee. So cute.

Personally I think he left Gwen there because he couldn't wait to get back to his Toshlove.

And who can blame him with that sexy librarian/teacher outfit she had on?  That pink shirt made her boobs look great.  And huge.  It must really be driving him nuts.   Tosh seems to be going just as nuts, too, if that sexually charged bickering about how there's no phones is any indicator.  Then Owen puts a nice finish on it by suggesting they have sex.  Yeah I know he was "joking" and Ianto was there, but it was just a safe way to express his desires.   Like when he was spritzing the plants.  It was a nonverbal way of showing Tosh that he's capable of attending to living things.  Such as babies.

Speaking of foreshadowing, this episode also gave me the feeling like it might be predicting the demise of Gwen's Rhys.  There was something about the storyline of this alien woman killing her husband despite all of her efforts to control it.  Then Beth goes on to ask Gwen to consider the guilt.  I think Gwen's looking at her future.  Perhaps. Or I might be reading too much into Torchwood...

And Ianto, oh Ianto.  Despite his annoying following, he didn't bug me all that much last week.  This week he was definitely annoying.  Too much retread with his "I know everything" quipping.  He does much better if he's not trying to be hilarious.  The timing was weird and I kept feeling like he was just there because the fans love him, sort of like a grade school play where they make up parts so everyone can be in it (I was "Mutey the Mailman" in Our Town - Dwight, The Office) They could cut out his stuff and it wouldn't be missed.

NEXT WEEK LOOKS AWESOME!  But sad, sad, sad for Tosh.  I can't wait! I'm counting on Owen being very sweet to her through her painful experience.  EEEE!
