Ah yes, the cheese does stand alone. But not in Wisconsin. But the cheese is way awesome. I even got chocolate cheese. I still haven't tried this, but i am curious. And i learned that curd is gross and it squeaks when you eat it. I believe that we went to the cheese Haus, but i could be wrong...since i still can't upload my pics, i can't double check on this. Where ever it was was tasty and was open at 9am.
and on with the trip. Off to Chamberlain, South Dakota. Our first hotel stop. I don't think anything exciting happend on this part of the trip, but it was sadly our last day of cell phone service for about 3 days. WAIT! i may have lied, again. I think we went to the Corn Palace this day. If not then, then the next day. The corn palace was in About Schmidt. But it is a building with corn art. pictures and murals and mosaics made of corn. It was neat and I have some nice pictures of it...then on to The hotel was fine, nothing special about it...well the special part is that it was not actually a hotel, but a motel and that we were now getting our first glimpse of the motor cycles going to and from the Badlands, for Sturgis Rally. Yeah, more on that later. We at dinner at Al's Oasis, which was cheap tasty food, i got a cheese burger and caroline got her first patty melt, at least i believe it was her first. A very nice man from the Boston area, who drove to texas and then up to the rally for a few days, told us about the rally and how basically it was not going to be too safe for us girls, or if he didn't flat out say it then he scared me enough to not want to stay at the badlands. We all went on our ways and then the night. Very boring without cell phones...there was a lot of cursing at sprint, expecially when you see people on cell phones at Al's Oasis, I still don't know what company they had.
Then the next day we packed off and drove to the Badlands, But not without first stopping at WALL DRUG. This is located in Wall, SD. It was neat. I got 5 cent coffee and a fresh donut and even got to ride a Jackolope! oh, you will all see when my pictures are up. So, wall drug is a tourist trap, but we only got some magnets and a shot glass there. Then to the badlands. I had little interest here, but Caroline wanted to go. So we went. We got to see Mount Rushmore, which you had to pay at least $8 to park just to get a picture of it, so we stopped in front of the parking area and took a picture from the car and then took a very long car ride and ate very late. We drove all over and went to the Jewel caves. That was neat. But the real reason we went there was to go to Deadwood, the town that the HBO show is based on. But dear lord, there were so many motorcycles...I HATED MOTORCYCLES AFTER THIS DAY. well that is a lie. I still want to ride one. But they kind of interrupted my trip. so we drove straight through to Wyoming and stayed camped out again, and we even got a place that had showers. A very nice place actually.
