I'm back from vacation a bit earlier than expected. due to some health problems on my part.
After we left the Ellensburg Rodeo, we headed south into Oregon to go to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland. We saw "The Comedy of Errors" and "Othello", both of which were great. Then we headed into northern California to see Lava Beds National Park.
It was in Lakeview, in the southeast corner of Oregon, that I got sick. I had chills and aches and so on, so my parents trucked me over to the hospital. This town is about the third of the size of Ellensburg and even more in the middle of nowhere, so the hospital was a bit understaffed. On Wednesday I spent eight solid hours in Emergency Room #1 while they tried to figure out what was wrong with me. I had X-rays and CAT scans and all sorts of tests, including a lumbar puncture, A.K.A. a spinal tap. On "House" it always appears to be an excruciatingly painful procedure, but it really wasn't too bad. I'm fairly used to needle pokes from giving blood, and it was more or less like that, only with a bigger needle and going quite a lot deeper. It wasn't fun, but it certainly wasn't as awful as they make it look on television.
It was discovered that my white blood cell count was twice what it should be, and although it is back to normal now, and I'm fine, I still have no idea what happened. It did effectively cut our trip short, though. I am glad to be home, and being in the hospital all that time wasn't too bad, as I slept quite a bit.
