Awhile back, I decided I should do a triathlon. The first week or so, I actually trained pretty well. I slacked off for another month, and the past 3 weeks or so I realized I was running out of time. The past few weeks have been decently busy with exercise. I was going to a core training course that Jack and Adam's bike shop holds twice a week... for free. It is a pretty good workout, then would go for a run around town lake afterward. I practiced riding the bike trail for the race course the past 2 weekends, to get use to the killer hills! I participated in a race called the splash and dash on a Tuesday night. That was surprisingly terrifying! It's very different swimming in a lake, with nothing to hold onto, while being splashed, elbowed, and kicked by other swimmers. I had a freak-out moment where I thought I couldn't breathe, and had visions of my body being dragged out of the lake! I did manage to finish that race without dying, but just barely. I'm definitely glad I had that terrorizing freak out moment out of the way before the race. I can't imagine dealing with that race morning! We had a fun kayaking trip in Bastrop 2 weekends ago. I'll have to steal pictures from Diana or Kathleen at some point. It was tons of fun!
This week I attempted sleep training. It wasn't very successful! I went to bed every night by about 11, instead of my normal 2am. I set my alarm for 6:45 instead of my normal 8:45, and got myself up right when it went off. Getting in bed wasn't a problem, it was the falling asleep part that I couldn't do. I didn't fall asleep before 4am any of those nights. I was hoping that by only getting about 2 hours of sleep, I'd be exhausted enough to fall asleep the following night. Apparently easier said than done!
I had to get up at 4:30am today to leave for the triathlon. Of course in true form, I didn't fall asleep at all! I managed to complete my triathlon today without even a minute of sleep! I started off the morning with a few fire ant bites, ouch! During the swim, 2 different people weren't paying attention, and swam right over me. They were doing the backstroke, and didn't see me I guess. 3/4 of the way through the swim, I felt my ankle band pop, and my timing chip fell off. Luckily, I caught it just before it sank. I did manage to get through the swim without a freak-out moment, yay! It was ridiculously windy all through the race, which was really annoying! It made huge waves in the swim, almost blew me over on the bike, and tried to push me backwards on the run. I managed to complete the whole race without coming in last place, or having to stop and walk. That's enough to make me happy!
My only injuries: 2 blisters and a sunburnt face. I forgot to put sunblock on my face! Oooops! Oh well, it's over, I am a triathlete, and am wondering which race to sign up for next!
