I watched “The Professional” with Magdalena. It is a Serbian movie and I was able to use insight from Tucydides to understand the political movements in that country during the last 15 years. I still maintain that there are no rules to human behaviour and that is what makes history and anthropology so amazing. The more you know the better you understand because of the similarities. At the same time you can never assume that parallels exist. I have said this before but I don’t really think anyone reads these posts so I will say it again, it is like life, the more experience you have, the better decisions you make. However experienced people still make mistakes, sometimes the same one over and over. Also, one is more likely to make mistakes if one assumes that a new situation is exactly the same as a previous similar one.
I also explained to Magdalena how she goes about giving someone criticism. She was surprised that I pinned down her exact thought process with out her telling me a clue. I simply listened to what she said and how she said it.
Still in spite of my wisdom, I still misjudge people. Or perhaps I misunderstand how people change.
Thinking about this as my relationship gets more and more serous. I realise I can not protect myself from getting hurt and betrayed. The only way to do that is to shun people. What kind of world is that for a romantic?
