Busy = Good? I Guess...

The past few weeks have been so unbelievably busy I can barely get a grip on anything. In between everything else that's keeping me busy, I have a pre-screening interview in Baton Rouge tomorrow morning... which I'm less than thrilled about.

I don't know. Maybe I shouldn't be so picky. But it's discouraging when I don't feel like I'm really getting anywhere. I've been out of college for almost a year and a half and still haven't found anything. And it's a blow to my ego that I was the first out of my sisters to graduate from college and the last to get a job. A lot of this has to do with what I want to do in the long run and trying to figure out what I should do to help me get there. But who knows. If I do end up in Baton Rouge for a while, the positive things would be that I can get to know the music scene here and do what I can to work in it. Then I can try to network while artists come through hopefully. Who knows... perhaps I'll actually follow through in that crazy though I had about one day starting my own band. Hell, from all of the blog reading, contacts, experience, etc. I've had, I pretty much know exactly how to get one to be successful. It's just a matter of doing it. We'll see. If I end up with a job out there, I can't imagine me staying any longer than necessary. If I don't make it to New York this year like I want to (as in living there), I really want to go to CMJ Fest this year in September. Actually, I will go!

Speaking of music, I finally ordered some CDs today that I've been wanting for some time:

  • Brazilian Girls
  • Ambulance ltd.
  • Goldfrapp
  • Arctic Monkeys
I've attempted buying the Ambulance ltd. CD for a while now, even though it looks like they're releasing a new one this year. Somehow I had just never gotten around to buying it. Mainly because it was hard to find out here or they only sold their EPs. I ordered the full length when I ordered The Futureheads back in October, but they sent me the EP instead on accident. Heh. Well, no need to worry anymore about that one. As for the other three, I've wanted for a while and I figured I'd get the Arctic Monkeys one before everyone else in the U.S. jumps on the bandwagon. But the CD I wanted most, The Cardigans' Super Extra Gravity, I had completely forgotten about. I also wanted The Long Blondes, but InSound only had it on vinyl with "Giddy Stratosphere" I think. I need to look into that, because I'm sure it's available on disc somewhere. Oh and damn, I forgot about Robyn too. Can't do it all I guess.

On another note, Catherine, one of my friends and coworkers from SLU's library is now engaged. I'm really happy for her. Yet it's just another constant reminder of how badly I want to get out of here. It seems like 80% of everyone I know is either married or engaged before the age of 25. And having hit that marker just yesterday, it just makes me that much more discouraged. Once I'm around more people who don't have marriage on their minds right away will help me out. Which is reason #4682 as to why I want to move to New York. I understand it's harder there to date, but hey, I'd rather be around lots of single people than lots of young, married people.

I'd better get going since I have to wake up early. Later!
