12 Girls Band - Shanghai

Another impulse purchase on my part.  I got this album for $7, but used.  I seriously don't think it was worth $7 considering the amount of damage to the case, which has a large hole on the side and big cracks everywhere else.  The CD is fine, though, and the music is very good.

12 Girls Band (女子十二乐坊) is a Chinese instrumental band with 13 girls who play various traditional instruments:

Dizi:  Liao Binqu, Sun Yuan
Guzheng:  Zhou Jiannan
Yangqin:  Yang Songmie, Ma Jingjing
Pipa:  Zhong Bao, Zhang Kun, Shi Juan
Erhu:  Sun Ting, Zhan Lijun, Yin Yan, Lei Ying, Jiang Jin

There were originally 12 girls, but a 13th member was added later on.  The list here does not match the one on Wikipedia because I'm getting it from the album, so these are the members and the instruments they played for this album.

This group plays covers of Chinese songs and Western songs as well as Liang Jianfeng's compositions.  They are accompanied by a few Western instruments.  All of the tracks include all of the girls playing their instruments except for the Bach tribute, which only has 2 erhu players and the nylon guitar.

The titles/tags vary from the titles listed on the back of the album because the titles on the back of the album were all in English.  I left English titles for the tracks that cover Western music, but folk songs and Liang Jianfeng's songs are labeled with Chinese titles and Pinyin based on the titles listed on Chinese Amazon.  This is because I didn't like the English translations of those titles.  (I really didn't like "HIGH MOUNTAIN AND FLOATING WATER," for example, because I don't think it accurately reflects the meaning of "高山流水," which is the actual title of the folk song.  It's more like "High Mountains and Flowing Water," or something like that.)
