So! I'm in Finland now, where the keyboards are just different enough to make things interesting. The letters are the same old qwerty layout, but all the punctuation is in different places (excepting . and ,), to make room for the 'ä', 'ö' and 'å'. I am very glad I will never have to program with this keyboard (although, now that I've said it, I probably will someday), since missing semi-colons is easy enough on a regular keyboard. Also, you need to press three keys to make an @! I guess people don't type e-mail addresses very often in Finland.
The flight here was pretty smooth. It was an hour late leaving Toronto, because Finnair was having issues with the American Airlines' computers. I couldn't sleep on the plane, so I watched the movies (
Someone Like You (meh) and
Music and Lyrics (very cute!)) and rented a PSP for
Loco Roco. The jet-lag hasn't been too bad so far...mostly it was like I'd pulled an all-nighter to finish an assignment.
Right now I'm staying at my uncle Pertti and aunt Suvi's house in
Porvoo. They've taken me to a
kantele concert, which was neat. Today we went biking downtown, and I would have bought the Hitchhiker's Guide in Finnish (for practice), but they only had the hardcover and I didn't have enough money. We also went to a museum, from which there are pictures to come!
If people would like Finnish post-cards, comment/e-mail me your address! Subtle hints as to preferable souvenirs also welcome ;)
(Aaagh, HTML! < is in-between shift and z, > is shift-<, " is shift-2, / is shift-7, = is shift-0. So weird!)
