When MTV was at its boom, I remember seeing a lot of Smashing Pumpkins video. They were everywhere. They were a breed of their own but I didn't really pay much attention. Aside from Billy Corgan being bald and pale white, and having a female guitarist (which was a big deal back then), this other guy got my attention and I can still vividly recall the weird-out feeling he gave me. One, he was Asian... not too common for rockers. Two, he's got this weird furry coats and a skunk hairstyle. Three, he had this enigmatic look.
I checked my email getting my regular dose of music from
Jomz. I listened to his latest 'turok' The song was refreshing. It was like I was driving through the countryside with the summer breeze rustling on my face with my eyes closed thinking of eternal love. Cheezy, I thought, but that was how it felt. Artist's name was James Iha. The name sounds familiar. I asked Jomz. He said he was 1/4 of SP. I went thinking... Wait, is he the Jap weirdo dude?
James Yoshinobu Iha... ...the boy with the eye makeup. I never imagined him to be singing songs about love, really. And when you least expect, that's when real surprises strike. His music has this familiarity like that of the Beatles but is still distinct. I've heard of SP disbanding but I never learned that he made an album back in '98. And it is, yeah, a bit 'late' listening to it now. 10 years have already passed but it's somehow amazing how his song got to me. The same weird-out feeling during the MTV days came back to me. It felt like destiny. <3
I've been knowing more about him the past days and am not stopping ^_^ For those who are skeptic, listen to his music... it's genius, or if not, it's true. I can't compose my thoughts, so this is what I can blog about for now. I've got so many things to say about him already... just expect that I'll blab about him more... soon.
