Dear Project Managers,
If you bring someone on your team who is primarily a backend programmer, even if they are programming web pages in PHP, it is NOT reasonable to assume that they are also masters of Photoshop. It is also NOT reasonable to assume that they are gods of CSS.
I've been beating my head against the wall all day because I have been tasked by an outside company my day job works with to make an existing page look exactly like their mockups using CSS and "cutting up images" - something I have absolutely zero experience doing. Oh, and they need it all by Friday at Noon, and they are frustrated with my lack of progress because they were told I was a "swift worker."
Well, no FUCKING SHIT there's not as much progress when you slam something completely unfamiliar in the hands of someone who is completely unqualified to do the work. I don't even HAVE any image programs that aren't MS Paint. (Finally got The Gimp.)
I mean, yeah, I'm sure that the work I'm doing is really simple and anyone who's done graphic design for the web probably could have finished it in a few hours. Unfortunately none of those people in our company are available.
...Wow, haven't vented like that about work in over a year. (And no, MY employer is awesome - this is another company I'm being subcontracted out to that's piling this on me because they also have noone qualified in-house to do the work...)
