First and foremost it should be mentioned that I hold the Buddhist religion in high regard. It is one of the few paths that I love and agree with. In fact, I've had one of my greatest spiritual moments in a Buddhist temple at Niagara Falls with
takami826 and
buffalospike . With that in mind it should be noted:
Read this... One of the precepts is this:
...intoxicating drinks and drugs causing heedlessness.
Yet, there are so many compilations that call itself Buddha Bar, or Buddha Lounge. In fact, at Houlihan's last week I actually had a martini that called itself the Zen Green Tea Martini. There are several Buddha Bars thoughout the world, that prides itself on world-centric music and it's full alcohol bar. I mention this not to dismiss the Buddhist precept, but to wonder if the precept itself is out of date. There are clearly no Jesus bars. I LOVE the Buddha bar and would like to visit one soon. Does that deminish the Buddhist tenets? I don't know. It's clearly a Western view of what is clearly an Eastern viewpoint. All I can say is that when I heard that Buddhist monk chanting in Niagara Falls, the last thing on my mind was a Green Tea martini.
