Okay, I'm venting again...feel free to skip.
I joined this Antinous group, after meeting this guy Tony Subia who runs Ecclesia Antinoi. He's a nice guy, really is. www.antinopolis.org Okay, here's the thing. I joined his group as an outbranch of my Hellenism. And yet, the more and more I read...he's going away from what I believe and into some sort of Apotheosis/Gnostic Monotheism. Then he sends out this letter to the group the other day and with quotes like these I thought...okay, that's it. Thanks, but no thanks.
"Although I have learned nothing that I did not suspect all along, I have to say that the Gnostics broke the seal that separated my spirit from the truth, the undeniable, terrible, painful truth, that there is no such thing as Gods, that religion is based on lies and anyone who has faith in these frauds is a victim of their own delusions."
(Um...okay, sounds like he's the delusional one to me)
"Pagans who believe in magic, and religion are strangely related to that classification of fools who participate in role-playing games or go to
the rocky-horror picture show."
(Condescending much???)
"I came against the kind of spirituality that is mostly concerned with ideas of community, healing, peace, harmony and historical accuracy of course… all the things that I am ultimately against."
(YEAH, totally, cause those are all bad things, right? Dufus!)
He goes on to talk about Apotheosis...or as he likes to call it...Homotheosis. (rolls eyes).
I wish I had a better historical understanding of the Antinous cult, so I could respond to him on an intellectual level...and to let him know that his brand of belief, might be alienating for some people on his list. Especially, calling people fools and victims of delusions....yeah, that's the way to win friends and influence people.
