Don't know what ya got til it's gone

Yes, I totally DID just quote a Cinderella song. I've always been ambivelant about air conditioning. It seems like such a pricey luxury. That's the Crusty New Englandah in me talking, I know. It's easy to dismiss such things when you've grown up in a northern valley surrounded by trees, where the swimming pool gets up to 70 degrees, tops, and we call that bathwater. Also, I like fresh air so I like to keep windows open. However. Delaware is not Massachusetts. It is flat, humid and fucking hot. (Yes, Georgians and Floridians, I realize there are hotter and humider places. I don't live there for a reason. Two if you count alligators.) So Delaware is hot and the air isn't what I'd call fresh. This makes AC a necessity even if I just use the fan part or the lowest setting. Last night I cam home to a dead AC. I suspected it was ailing and sure enough, it had shuffled off this mortal coil. I had unhappy flat cats. My apartment people just put in a new one. Today's lesson: don't take anything for granted.

apartment, simple pleasures
