Went to Maine this weekend for Shawna's wedding. I headed up with Shawna's friend Paul on Thursday. We arrive around 10:30 pm because we stopped in Portsmouth for some Thai food, which was really yummy. It turns out that I DO like shrimp, I've just been too much of a wuss to try it since I was 10. Anywho, we arrive and then go to bed. Everyone's pooped. The next morning, Shawna and I organize her wedding stuff into two different boxes and pack 'em up. We did some errands then went to the rehearsal and met up with everyone. Hurray! Got to see Sharon, Janelle, and Katie. And Lisa, but I've only met her once before, so it was nice to get re-acquainted with her as well. Very nice girl. We rehearsed, had some pizza, cookies, and birthday cake. Sharon, Janelle, Katie and I stayed at the assistant pastor's from Shawna's church. Got around to look pretty the next day and headed to the church/school. Did some last minute things (Katie, Janelle, and Paul helped out a lot with that stuff), had tons of pictures taken. Oh yes, Rose and Coach came and did the photography. ROse was the choreographer and Coach took lots of pics. I had forgotten how much I hate smiling ;-). Well, for long periods of time. We had the wedding at 1:30, a very short ceremony. 13 minutes is what we clocked it as (from the mother's being escorted in to them being escorted out). Had to take food out to the gym, then come back for more pictures. Then they announced us. Raquel was there as well! It's been ages since I have seen her, but it was great to catch up and see what she was up to! Decorated Shawna and Joshua's car. They had some pictures they were going to take, so they left for a short while, we cleaned up the gym. They came back, said their good-byes, Shawna said the Firefly line to me (a few older people around, didn't want them to get upset) and they left. Tossed the frisbee around for a few minutes, I couldn't catch to save my life. It was great.
Went camping in NH, near the presidentials. It was too late to drive up Washington, so we decided to do that in the morning. It was too foggy/rainy in the morning, so we drove by the mountains. We did see the train that goes up the mountain. It was ridiculously windy, but they were still going up it anyway. Had we more time, we would have taken it, but we had a tight schedule. We did make some stops along the way so Paul could take some pictures of the very scenic rivers/streams. The foliage was absolutely gorgeous. The colors were so vivid, and there really weren't any barren trees. Absolutely perfect timing for a wedding in New England, I must say. It was just so gorgeous. We went through Vermont because we wanted to go the scenic route. You know, fall in New England makes for pretty pictures :-p. We stopped at the Ben & Jerry's factory in VT. Man I love their ice cream...soooo good. Went up VT a little ways and took the ferry across to NY. Drove through the Adirondacks, which was absolutely stunning. Probably my favorite part of the drive. It was getting late, so I only got to see some of its beauty. We arrived in Lake Placid around 7:00 pm and that was the last of the light that we had. I love lakes and mountains combined. I think I have to live in the Adirondacks. Or British Colombia. Or New England (but it needs more lakes).
So yay, got to see VT and part of the Adirondacks finally. And more of NH. It was a perfect weekend for sight-seeing. The foliage was as beautiful as I had ever seen it. I'll have to try to do this more often! Especially this time of year!
