I don't feel like dancing

It snowed. Actually lets be honest it snowed alot in a short time and is still snowing, and this is all after a time period of sub-arctic temperatures. So naturally I had to walk across Price Lake. I think I have a Jesus complex, I've done this every year for three years now. There is this amazing feeling that you get when you stand on a frozen lake. You know you are risking your life but you are standing on something that appears so solid. There are at least 15 feet of cold water lying like a dark abyss beneath those four inches of ice, or so you guess, since you can't really know how thick the ice is. It is a very zen moment where honestly what happens to your life is no longer in your hands. If that ice cracks there is not much that you can really do. You can tell yourself that you can out run the cracks, or scramble back to shore but the truth of the matter is that probably won't happen. If that ice gives way then you are going to splash into water that is just about two degrees above freezing. Your heavy winter coat and shoes that were keeping you so warm a minute before will turn into an enemy trying to drag you under. That quiet cold water will grip you and push all the air out of your lungs and force all of your blood vessels and muscles to constrict. It's hard to stay afloat when you are instantly too cold to move. One of the most sickening sounds on the planet is the sound of ice cracking. It is like the world stops and thunder roars in your ears. Its a rush but not one that should be experienced often. There are way's to survive falling in a frozen lake, I know them and I don't take any of it lightly but it is a great feeling to know all of the possible outcomes and still blindly and stupidly risk my life walking across the lake.

On more things that should or should not be done in the winter: I have a bit of a rant about people driving in the snow. If you can't do it, get off the ROAD! Snow on the road is not the end of the world. If there is snow on the road then drive slowly. Mind you not so slowly that you loose all momentum on hills and slide backwards into the poor sap behind you, keep it safely slow. Tap your breaks, slamming them causes your nice car to turn into a wonderfully upholstered sled, complete with heat and seat belts. For heavens sake if the only clear tire tracks on the road are on the opposite side of the road, don't go all British on the world. Just because the road is a bit wintry does not mean the rules of the road change. It also irks me how people with SUV's and four-wheel-drive, think that they are automatically entitled to take over the roads. Yes I drive a 4WD SUV, but I mean, I can also drive in winter weather. Ugh, its annoying.

Onwards about the snow, it has a magical quality. It erases the world for a while and just gets wonderfully quiet. Naturally I took this opportunity to go running. Yes I am THAT girl out there in a T-shirt and sweatpants running in the snow, but there is something so relaxing that it makes life worth living.

Try it, you may like it, you might also get hypothermia but we must make sacrifices for a life worth living...or so they say.
