Yee-haw. I'm in Texas. Yeppers. Visiting my darling werewolveriniki. It took me forever to get here seriously but once I've gotten here it's been wonderful and I don't want to leave. Her parents are absolutely adorable. Simply adorable. If there has ever been a person that completely personifies the phrase 'wonderfully adorable' it's her mother. Serious. A tiny petite Latina woman with a thick cute accent and is hyperactive and always talking and telling fun stories and hugging you and taking pictures of Warren and then making all these overwhelmingly good and amazing tasting foods from scratch... if that's not adorable nothing is.
Anyway, so coming here it was supposed to be 2.5 hours flight and then as we approached Dallas there was a storm/tornado watch and they closed the airport so we circled a bit then diverted to the city of Abiline about a 3 hour drive west of Dallas. There we fueled up then sat on the runway waiting and waiting for 5 solid hours. We couldn't get off the plane because they had no steps or buses to get us. We couldn't go to the terminal because they had no space for us. And then so after sitting for hours they ordered Dominos pizza (yes they deliver to planes) where we eat got a single slice of pizza for dinner. And finally after 5 hours of sitting there we were told we're going to San Antonio. Now Texas is a big big state, San Antonio is down south and 5 hour drive from Dallas. They told us Dallas airport was still closed and they would either bus us to Dallas that night or give us hotel rooms and then send us in the morning. So we fly another half hour to San Antonio and then to the buses where we stop quickly in McDonalds before heading through the towns of San Marcos, Austin, Fort Worth and then Dallas. We got to Dallas at 2.30 in the morning. 12 hours after we were supposed to have arrived. Monique met me and drove me home where we ate homemade rosoto rice and then talked and went to bed.
The next morning I met her parents in my pyjamas where we had a wonderful huge breakfast and we talked and talked and then ate lunch (again another huge handmade amazing meal from scratch) then got dressed, begged her mother to come with us and we were off to visit the city of Fort Worth. Fort Worth is small but has a very cute Stockyards area thats all traditional Texas cowboy life. We saw a real cattle drive. Real cowboys. Fake cowboys. Tourists. Texans. And then we shopped a bit and saw how they made cowboy hats, cowboy boots, and got to see what Ostrich leather looks like too. Then to dinner where we had ribs and took many pictures of Warren who loved the attention. And finally back to the house to relax before going to Blockbuster for some movies and Monique's nagging at me.
Sunday (New Years Eve Day) Monique and Warren and I went into the city of Dallas alone. Saw the place where JFK was shot, got to take pictures from the grassy knoll where he was shot, saw all of that stuff then walked around, almost saw a parade of college football fans. Then drove across the city to see a large statue thing of a cattle drive and took pictures after pictures before going to drive around more and managing to get lost, found ourselves in Fair Park which is some large park ground and has the Cotton Bowl Stadium. Then to a Mexican restaurant named Chuys. Good stuff. Then I saw the rich section of Dallas and we got hopelessly lost before finally going back home.
A three of Monique's friends came by for New Years Celebrations. We got along wonderfully. They were all nice girls and we ate this amazing tasting cake Moniques mother had made from scratch of course. Then we played CatchPhrase and that was muy fun and then ate more and finally it was midnight and we celebrated for many minutes with horns, crackers, crowns, dancing, shots of tequila, champaign, grapes, yelling, hugging, and all the rest. Very fun. Warren was the main man of the evening as well. Monique even set him up with a date for the evening, a nice ewe that eventually Warren slipped away with her to the other room and they got it on. (Monique's mother got pictures. Porn pictures, oh my!) Yes, Warren got lucky on New Years. At least one of us is getting some at least. But before that all the girls were fawning(fauning? spelling?) over him. Eventually two of the guests left and the rest of us sat and talked and listened to Monique's darling parents tell stories about their lives in Brasil. Eventually the parents went to bed and one of the other girls left and the three of us remaining sat and talked more before watching LoveActually (saw it for the 1st time, it was wonderful. highly recommended. 5 of 5 Sauls.) The other girl fell asleep and Monique and I finally went to bed about 6.30 am.
Today it was a day of just staying inside. Sat and talked a while, ate lunch, they had a family friend come over and we all had this nice lunch and finally both friends left (the family one and the one from the night before) and Monique and I finally started watching our rented movies. First one, Lady in the Water (3.5 of 5 Sauls), then Bend it Like Beckham (4.5 of 5 Sauls). Both I'd seen for the very first time today.
Tomorrow, as my last day, who knows. Maybe a musuem with corpses, maybe just corpses, maybe something else, who knows. Then unfortunitly I have to leave them and go back to the nasty cold of Chicago and my job and my mother. :( Maybe I'll just steal her parents instead.
on the whole Texas is actually quite nice. Not so much the actual state but the people I've met that I've met. And some of the things that I've seen are nice. but the transportation sucks.
