It may sound strange to admit that there are times I'm so busy and so preoccupied with "important things" that I forget that I'm alive.
Has this ever happened to you?
How do you wake up? What makes you stop and remember? What makes you value the moment?
Colds.
Splinters.
Paper cuts.
Illness.
Needles.
Pain.
Thank God for those things. Geez, they are like burning bushes screaming for my attention. "HEY! YOU'RE ALIVE! SO LIVE!"
If only we could be reminded by pleasant things...
Smiles.
Laughter.
Blue Skies.
Mountains
Kisses
Trees
Hugs
Butterflies.
Dogs
Rain
Cats
Lightning
Family & Friends
A gentle and loving touch
A beautiful full moon
Children
A bright sun
Snow
Music
Eating a piece of fruit
The list goes on of how many pleasant things there are in this world. It makes me sad to know that I haven't, up to this point in time, valued all of those things as unique and special moments in time that can never be repeated.
I have memories. The smiles I did relish in I remember. I'll carry those smiles with me to the day I take my final breath. Smiles that belonged to me and smiles that were shared with me by others.
I ask you, pick one of those things on the pleasant list and try to imagine your life without ever experiencing that thing. Are you horrified? Yeah. I was too.
So, if you're busy with "important things" in life. And suddenly you get sick, or a papercut, or anything painful that makes you go "Oh why me!" - think about how many pleasant reminders you have let pass you by. Be grateful for the painful reminder and stop and find the built in joys in your life and relish in them.
