so, i have never been an avid reader.  once i get into a book, i have trouble putting it down.  but i rarely accomplish the feat of picking up a book and getting past the first chapter without getting distracted by something else.  there are a few books i'd like to read this summer, but i was hoping that you may have some suggestions.  (this was ( Read more... )

Hey love.

I FLOVE READING. Books, fic, and everything else :)

Lately, I've really gotten into everything Cecelia Ahern has written, so I recommend PS, I Love You as your first look into her writing. I know you love a good cry, and this one is definitely one of those books that can totally make you cry :)

I've told you this before, but I really really really recommend Sara Gruen's Water for Elephants. It's historical fiction, and all the history is about the traveling circus. Great plot, some suspense, romance, and some action. It's a great read. I couldn't put it down. :) That's all I could think of for now, but more later, and probably on AIM. haha.

i suffer from the same thing. i always get so easily distracted, so i'll be amazed if i make a dent to my list. it's going to be a real challenge. oh, and don't read don quixote unless you're prepared. and unless you have a really good edition / translation. trust me on that one.

here's some of my suggestions.

jean rhys wide sargasso sea - it's relatively short, almost like a novella. it's a look at the mad woman from bronte's jane eyre and it's just... perfection.

jeffrey eugenides the virgin suicides - a brilliant look at youth, innocence and death in the suburbia of the 70's, focusing on the lisbon daughters.

bret easton ellis less than zero - written in the 80's, it's like an updated version of the catcher in the rye. teenagers living in california, disillusioned, lost and immersed in literally, sexs, drugs and rock and roll.

i absolutely loved jane eyre, it's actually probably one of my faves of the classics. so i will definitely have to check out wide sargasso sea.

i've seen the movie the virgin suicides, but it was quite awhile ago. i liked the movie, but i'm sure the book is better.

and again, loved the catcher in the rye, so less than zero sounds really cool.

thanks so much, hun! if i get to reading them, i'll let you know what i think! :)
