DAY TWO.
I was rudely awoken at about 9 a.m. this morning, but this always happens to me on vacation. I was still so exhausted that I couldn't even open my eyes; really, it was odd and extremely painful. Eventually I wrestled them open and had an A-Class breakfast of a double chocolate Entemann's donut. ::shifty eyes::
The family decided this morning to walk through our 'backyard' persay and attempt to find the ocean.
It was actually quite simple. Note the path. Just beyond that bump and up another small one, we found--Ocean!
I like this picture of Jonathan. So I put it in there.
The ocean at this section of beach was, yet again, much like Long Island waters. At the same time, it felt much nicer, and I know everyone enjoyed themselves. We attempted body-surfing to no avail. Jonathan found a butterfly...
And don't yell at me and tell me that if you touch it, it doesn't fly. It flew away a mere 30 mnutes later, thankyou. He saved it, it was about to get washed away.
I found these weird looking clam things and they're in very pretty shells, so that was always fun. We also attempted a kite...
To no avail.
I used my Pirates O' The Caribbean sunscreen ^_^
It worked well. Only problem was that I kept forgetting to apply it to my face and that I couldn't reach my back…
Anyways, by this point my Uncle called us and told us to come down to their beach. First, we went to our house to eat lunch. We headed back, my brother spotted a lizard and then got angry when it ran away before we could see it, because he does that...then we used the Outside Shower. It's actually under the house. All of the houses here are up on platforms so I guess if there's a hurricane or a flood the houses don't get washed away. We had a lovely lunch of bratwurst (yeah, shut up). At that point we got in the car and drove. It wasn't very far, we found this little driveway like thing to park in. We have our handy-dandy backpack-chairs which are exactly as they sound, chairs that are backpacks. They're actually rather uncomfortable but I’m not complaining because they're much easier to use. I think we probably trespassed on someone’s property while getting there, but we found this boardwalk thing and headed on over to it...Jonnie kept crying because the sand was hot. Also the boardwalk served as a sot of bridge and led to this. It was pretty.
As it turns out we were actually able to drive our cars up to the beach, which we only found out later. Nonetheless though, that is a very difficult task, many cars have to be towed out. When we got there most of the family (or, extended family) was there. This was a much more appropriate area to attempt boogie boarding because there was a sandbar that went out 20+ feet. There were a few hardcore surfers which was amusing and yet scary because they didn’t seem to give a crap about anyone else in the water if they caught a wave. They’d knock you down, and one of them almost ran into me. It was cool though because they could actually do it, which is something I’ve never seen before. Anyways, I caught a grand total of one (1) wave all the way in, and two (2) decently in. The rest were all fizzles, though I tried many, many times. It was much more crowded at this section of beach though...so though it was very fun there for landscape reasons, I prefer our seclusion better.
Eventually we went back to the house and braved the Outside Showers again…my mom decided to walk in on me and she caught an eyeful and it was rather embarrasing but I lived. Rather it be her than Anthony or my Dad, anyways. I took a shower-shower though, because I deemed the Outside Shower ‘uneffective’. My hair felt like straw after both, though. It was rather disconcerting. Then my mom showed me her leave-in conditioner that she snuck along and I asked her why she’d been hiding it from me. I felt much better.
We then went out to dinner to a place called the Dolphin’s Den.
They claimed to have the best Key Lime pie in all of North Carolina, as well as the best Coconut Shrimp…they were both good, but not outstanding, in my humble opinion. They had this creamy crab soup though, that was to die for. They added nutmeg?
After dinner we went to the grocery store, where I bought postcards and conditioner for my hair among other things, and then to a t-shirt shop (they’re EVERYWHERE) where I got a shirt with a skull’n’crossbones. It says ‘Outer Banks, NC’ and…yeah.
Then we came back and um, mmhmm. It’s late, I’m tired. We watched Forrest Gump. Or, most of it.
I took lots of pictures today, as you can tell.
I’m also very sorry that I’m incoherent at this point in time.
And so, I leave you with the song that was stuck in my head all day today…(I’m on a Beatles thing this vacation)
