i have so many opportunities for things to be doing now.
there can be no reason for me to complain.
this is quite good that i am so filled up. by the end of the summer, i must
1) finish Grapes of Wrath [for school]
2) read Angels and Demons [for school, but it's not like i wouldn't read it anyway]
3) (by July 31st!) read 2 more books for the summer reading program, but they have to be ones checked out of the library, which is kind of annoying. i'm starting The Sound and the Fury by Faulkner but i haven't gotten anywhere yet. my mom says it's really hard to get through but i'll try. why not?
additionally, i just got A City By the Light Divided by Thursday and i just ordered In Bocca Al Lupo by Murder by Death. (!!)
sweet deal. << [phrase i think i stole from jake.] [not sure.]
ANNNNNDDDD the main reason i went to borders tonight [DROVE there, in fact] was that i had a gift card and what i wanted to spend it on was a YOGAAA BOOOK! which i did. it's really comprehensive and not only shows you what your body should be tangled into but molds and sequences those moves into multiple workouts for different time frames and goals. :)
i'm hoping it will be a good way to cope with stress (ha, like i'm 40 or something) during the school year and also maybe get me just a little bit more active, especially since i can do it in my room. it'd be nice to build some strength, too. i'm pretty wimpy.
and jeff [piano teacher] told me to get Kind of Blue by Miles Davis, which i really enjoy. i was reading CosmoGirl! while it was playing in my room last night and it really sets a mood, actually about 5 of them. jazz is incredible. the imperfection was what i enjoyed, as well.
when i was at borders today, i saw this book that said 1001 ALBUMS YOU MUST HEAR BEFORE YOU DIE, and so i picked it up and sat down and leafed through it to see what this person thought those albums were, and i very much agreed with a lot of his choices. there were things like the vines (highly evolved), norah jones (come away with me), wilco (yankee hotel foxtrot), the yeah yeah yeahs (fever to tell), sigur ros (something in icelandic, not their most recent), the arcade fire (funeral), outkast (stankonia), britney spears (hit me one more time)...haha. it was from 1955-2005. but i was just astounded that this guy knew 1001 albums that were the BEST, meaning that he had probably critically listened to WAY WAY WAY more than that through his lifetime in order to come up with a solid and well-placed list. and to be that open to so many different styles? just admirable all around.
also, he had Kind of Blue in there! [aha!] and i learned that the band that accompanied Miles on the CD had never seen the music before the recording session, which he did on purpose so that they would constantly be on their toes and give a very focused performance.
i love little tricks like that. people who know what they're doing, and from experience and knowledge.
in addition, i got the Suite Bergamasque last week, by Debussy, in which Clair de Lune is the 3rd movement. right now i'm working on the 4th movement, which is really cool and quirky and unexpected and fun and challenging and i am really enjoying it and whenever i don't know what to do i sit down and pick through it.
so all in all, i'm going to be a recluse until the end of the summer. i mean, i have a lot to keep myself occupied with. human contact won't be necessary.
(joke)
i might be giving you a ring soon.
