BRING IT

Jul 25, 2004 13:08

I've been thinking about this for awhile: whenever one travels there is a set list of things one should bring with them; some are rules and must be brought. When i say travel i mean an alotted time of more than two hours. There are also stipulations of a more than 9 hour trip and if youre staying at your destination for more than one night. Here is what i have so far. Feel free to add but if you do so, explain yourself.

Travelling for more than two hours:

1. A Towel. Always bring a towel. Im not the one that made this one but you have to bring a towel with you whereEVER you go even if its less than an hour drive. ALWAYS BITCH.

2. One extra pair of socks. You never know when your socks are going to get wet so you always need an extra pair. But im neurotic so i think like this: you never know when youre going to need more than just that extra pair of socks because what if they get wet? So far im up to 17 pairs.

3. An extra pair of sneaker. On the same note, an extra pair of dress shoes. Also, an extra pair of heavy boots. The boots are optional though.

4. Grey Poupon. You never know when a smart ass is gonna stop right next to you at a light and ask for Grey Poupon. Its up to you to ruin his or her bad overly done joke. But the problem with that is if they ask for it, you have to give it up so as soon as you do that, you could either do the same thing as them and then get it back or you have to go out and buy some more.

5. One of those fold out clothy chairs. The number you have depends on how many people you have in your vehicle. You never know when youre going to have to stop and sit.

6. A cd player. Even if you dont have a cd deck and you have just a tape deck, you have to have a portable cd player with an adapter. Without it, passengers are likely to go insane and kill you. Of course, you also need as many cds as as many hours youre travelling. One cd for each hour.

7. 5 Dollars worth of quarters. Those little quarter machines get addicting.

8. A Gameboy of some sort from the oldest (recommended) or the newest Gameboy Advance SP (also recommended). And games of course-specifically Final Fantasy Adventure or Final Fantasy Legend II. If you dont have a Gameboy, a Gamegear with a car adapter is also acceptable. You dont need one of those for the gameboy though because the batteries only run out on the third thursday of every month.

9. Speaking of batteries, you need at least 4AAA batteries, 8AA, 2C, and 2D batteries. Batteries are the mainstay of any traveler. Well, not really but batteries are always important to me. Cause im an electronics gheek.

10. A flashlight/mini-flashlight/laser pointer. If it gets dark its fun to flash into other people's cars.

11. A lighter or matches. Sometimes its necessary to set things on fire.

12. A normal book that you've been reading for awhile that you want to finish up. But you have to finish it on the way there or back. No exceptions.

Now there are trips that last longer than the standard 2 to 9 hour trip. Some trips, although rare, last fore MORE than 9 hours. For those special occasions, there are special trip requirements that must be followed.

13. Mouthwash. you never know who you're gonna have to or want to get close to or make out with... whichever you prefer. Yes. On a long drive you have the option to make out with any one of your passengers (thanks Jess).

14. A moderately long book that you havent started yet. You really cant have started it otherwise you have to get a new one. Really. You cant even open the cover until 30 minutes into the trip. And you have to read ALL of it. I mean the whole thing. The prologue, the epilogue, the ads in the front. The only thing you dont have to read is the order forms in the back of the book. You can rip those out.

15. At least 50 bucks. Its fun to stop and get food.

16. A 12 pack of Labatt's and a dvd or vhs of The Blues Brothers and a tv. This one is mostly optional if you have a car or something. But if you have a van of any sort, you have to follow this rule. That and Weekend At Bernies.

17. At least one passenger. Now its mostly assumed that for a moderately long trip you'll have a passenger and its not a big deal if you dont. However if you dont have one for a really long trip, you wont make it all the way. Bring someone. Specifically Tom Celic.

18. A little pillow in case you start falling asleep behind the wheel. Of if youre the passenger to nail your sleeping captain.

ill go more into the workings of travel later
