We're gettin' down to the wire folks, and the refrain that I hear most often is this: "I don't get it. I can't tell why I should care. It's like none of it is connected."
Maybe you're like a lot of us, who spend ridiculous hours commuting everyday and have too much time to think about things like this. I'm going to pretend to know what I'm talking about and ask a series of frustrating questions you've probably considered ad nauseum, because that entertains me.
Or maybe you're one of us who doesn't want to think that hard and just wants someone to spell it out already. I'll get to the answers later. Complete with flow charts. In some other post.
For now I'll just be annoying.
Yeah, it's all connected. Get your white board out, or a clean sheet of paper, and write down these things in random spaces on the outside: War in Heaven. War in Hell.
Becoming a Demon.
Breeding Monsters.
Purgatory.
Origins of Life.
Bloodlines.
Instant communication. Then write these words in the middle: Sam. Dean. Death.
It all points to one thing: the thing they keep mentioning. Yes, we know it's about souls. But we don't know why.
What do souls do? They pretty much live forever and can cross 'international borders', right? Well, what if you wanted, or in some cases didn't want, to live forever? What would you do to change that? To get back to square one?

Who has souls? Everyone, right? Humans, demons and monsters all have souls; they are in various conditions, yes, but souls are intact nonetheless. The father of vampires knew just by smelling him (so did the leprechaun) that Sam didn't have his soul; because it takes one to know one (Cas couldn't tell without popping the cork on the bottle).
And who doesn't have, and wants, souls - in order to have paradise? Angels, right? Where does an angel go to get one of those if they don't have a bloodline on earth and an extraordinary circumstance with which to gain a soul's permission?
And who has souls that nobody can use? Monsters, right? Safe bet that they will be the only ones who never get possessed by anyone, even if they are the single most persecuted and ruthless races on the planet.
And what is the one thing that demons, trapped inside their own warped souls, cannot do?
And who sent Dean and Sam back to their full (souled & soled) conditions in order to find out what everyone wants with souls that live forever? Who is content with the knowledge that it doesn't matter who makes a break for the kingdom of Earth when you've all gotta go sometime? ... or do you?
