MAIN | PART 16

DEVIL'S TRAP
Sam's side of what's happening.

A bloodline is a man's future; it's his ability to carry on his family legacy and have children and raise them to be brave and to do what they should.

What if the possibility of a good future was ripped from you? It would be like your own blood turning against you, at the most personal level.

Eliminate the future of man, you win the battle, and you win the war.

That's just to show that Sam's real power- and his real weakness - doesn't really stem from the demon blood. It was always inside him ... the whole time. It's his family, his blood. Not demons.

Bloody Mary always comes back with enough guilt to choke the biggest ego, if you can believe it.
I'll come back to this. *hands Dumbo!Sam a feather*

Hm...what? *looks closely at the veins in Sam's face from Bloody Mary* Oh THAT. Hey... I've seen that pattern before...

Goethe says, through his mouthpiece Faust, that the spirit of the times is at bottom the spirit of those in whom the times are mirrored. Thus, this verse questions the reality of a “spirit of an age.”

Sam = Home >< The Blood = Destiny

" So, even if Sam changed again, do you think Dean would ever be able to just leave him behind? Of course not. They need each other. Dean is the zeitgeist of the past. Sam is the zeitgeist of the future. The future without the past is reckless. The past without the future is pointless."

Excuse me while I procure tissues and an appropriate British theatrical indie song that isn't Queen. /Crowley voice

Sam is scrambling for something, anything, to make headway against the bonds he's in, but it's like he's tied to a chair inside his own body.

BANG. BANG.
*gasp* Bobby winged Sam! Twice! He shot Lucifer! With the Colt! ... He couldn't be shooting to kill. We know it doesn't work! He did it anyway! BUT WHY.

WHAT IF...
The Colt being used to shoot Lucifer wasn't about Lucifer at all. It was about Sam. Sam has always been the one to search long and hard to find any weapon that would give him a secured, guaranteed victory over his nemeses. He searched for the Deus Ex Machina for so long. He has believed that it was so many different things over the years: the Colt, the Knife, the Blood. He didn't see that the ones he was ignoring -- the ones where he had to face his deepest fears -- saying yes, letting go of Dean -- were the ones that worked. Gabriel knew that Sam had to play that part. He knew that Sam would lose everything, but he ALSO said that the ONLY WAY that it would be the death of Sam was if Sam COULDN'T let go. Since Sam clearly did... he's not going to die... not really.

Bobby knew the gun wouldn't work on Lucifer. Everybody knew that... but Sam? Sam thinks of every angle. He would have wondered if Lucifer in his body was a special case that would have been susceptible to the Colt and he would have wanted to try it. If Sam's subconscious has to rule out the Colt, it will immediately look for something else, and right now the only something else is Dean. Bobby is trying to give Sam a chance, even if he has to die or kill Sam's body to do it.
OH BOBBY. *whimper*

Stand back! We're going to try deranged math again science!

when ((if X < > John,  else Bobby) + Sam + X) and Dean + Y then

Dean: I bet you’re real proud of your kids, too, huh? Oh wait, I forgot. I wasted ‘em.
[Dean just smiles at him and John looks at Dean. He steps back and puts his head down. When he looks back up Dean suddenly yells in pain.]
Sam: Dean! No!
[Dean starts to bleed heavily from his chest. Sam starts to struggle against the force pinning him.]
Dean: Dad! Dad, don’t you let it kill me!
[John looks at him again and smiles. Dean starts screaming in pain.]
Sam: Dean!! No!!
[The blood is flowing out of Dean. Sam struggles as hard as he can to break free. Blood is running out of Dean’s mouth.]
Dean: Dad, please.
[Dean passes out.]
Sam: Dean!!
John: Stop. Stop it.
[Sam is suddenly let go. Sam dives and grabs the gun off the table. John turns to him, eyes yellow once again, and Sam aims the gun at him.]
John: You kill me, you kill Daddy.
Sam: I know.
[Sam fires the gun, shooting John in the leg. He falls down and so does Dean. Sam gets up and goes to his brother.]
--Devil's Trap
When Bobby shoots Lucifer, it's not because he hopes it might kill Lucifer, he knows it won't. But if Meg was anything to go on, it will slow Lucifer down enough to give Sam a fighting chance.

Maybe Bobby thinks - about John's possession - that it was Sam and the gun that broke through to John. Even if the gun could have killed the demon, Sam would have killed John and Sam wasn't going to risk that. It was more important to him to get his father back than it was to kill the demon.

BOBBY! D:
