Is there a theme to people living in the walls of their houses that I'm failing to pick up on?
Well could be process of elimination. There are other things besides ghost which don't cross salt lines, so for example, it wasn't a demon either if she could cross the salt line. Dean could eliminate anything that couldn't cross salt from the question.

She looked human. I don't know how many urban legends there are about people living in the walls but there are alot of movies and stories about it so I assume there is a basis for it someplace and Dean and Sam would know that.

So once Dean saw her, he could be 99 percent sure she probably was human. I didn't really have a problem with that.

Still I think this episode was about a hundred times better than Heaven and Hell. It was creepy, it had emotional resonance. I loved the boys HUNTING and connecting PiP's and MOTW's. I LOVED LOVED LOVED that Dean got to be smart and figure stuff out and kick ass and save someone instead of being treated like an idiot who needs everything explained to him, preferably in a condescending tone of voice.

OMG, YOU KNOW WHAT? THIS IS THE FIRST TIME HE'S SAVED SOMEONE SINCE HE GOT BACK FROM HELL.

No WONDER he was all, "it doesn't matter how many I save", because he'd been waiting for this moment to see if it would help him to heal... and I'm guessing it didn't.

OH, DEAN. *has real tears. no really.*
