"The last scene we get with him before the final resolution was him either taking part in, or at least giving consent to a slaughter of demon-possessed people for Screwing Up His Life."I don't know that he gave in on that at all. Lucifer was clearly in charge by the time the next scene rolls around I don't think Sam would have killed them all, he showed a lot of restraint initially with ... what was it Brian? Pharmaceutical boy. Who was spending the whole time gloating about how much he'd fucked with his life and then telling him about how he'd taken great pleasure in killing Jessica. These other people just sat there and stared and I don't think Sam would have been ok just killing them all. Plus Lucifer had control in the scenes before that and just allowed Sam to talk to him at best. I personally think Lucifer just gave him a front seat to watch the slaughter while he did it in order to break him. And once all the killing was done he let him sit there and take in the carnage just for that added 'look what we did' gloating. ( ... )

That makes sense too. He definitely looked unsettled, I just took it as more of a what did I just do compared to what did my body just get used for? Either way the mirrors were waay cool.

Sam's character and his "ending" is hard to define. Was it happy.. no.. was it satisfying .. well in a dark way. His life was changed forever as a baby.. his "destiny" seemed ordained. And we were not given some miraculous redemption.. correct. BUT Sam took control of his "doomed" life and ended it his way.. on his terms.. with his consent. Maybe for this tragic hero, that's all we can expect. Maybe this was a happy ending ( ... )

That's certainly a positive way to look at things. :)

Well in my MANY years.. yes I'm one of those older fans.. I've had life send me down some strange paths.. and after awhile you end up saying.. ok, well here we go.. let's see what happens now.

That's Supernatural for you.. it's sent us down some strange paths.. and although it may not be what we envisioned.. it really isn't that bad.. we've had fun along the way. Why moan and get angry over something we have no control over?

Two beautiful men.. lot's of love and humor... good stuff.

I'll admit that I'm an unusual case in that I'm more invested in the MotWs than the grand mytharc, but as you can see, I try to analyze a lot of things too. My favorite eps are low on the personal drama and high on the bloodlust.

What I was wondering is if Castiel returns to heaven, what happens to Jimmy?

Considering God intervened, I would almost think that Jimmy is given his existence back. Then again, the whole Jimmy thing confuses the bejeezus out of me when I think about the fact that Castiel was re-created in Jimmy's body in 5.01 and it was still "aware" enough to have cravings. I never did understand whether Jimmy was still in there or not.

According to Pestilence he was. SPN doesn't seem to have a lot of concern for vessels unless they happen to be Sam and Dean.

Amen to that.

Perhaps the most disturbing thing about this episode (and why I miss that part where it salutes them as "heroes") was the stringing up and bleeding demons dry. Totally blocking that out.

"I tend to think just about any good person would take the former option. Which means that to me, Sam's choice didn't stand out at all."

Sorry, but that doesn't hold true for a moment. A truely good person, when given the choice between being saddled with the devil for eternity or there being a chance, however slim, the someone will find a way to kill, and therefore free, them from Lucifer wouldn't jump in. Most people wouldn't have the courage.

Just try to put yourself in the position; eternity in prison, knowing that if you ever do get free it means hell on earth, or face off against Michael and stand a good chance of being freed?

No, it would take a lot of courage and cynicism to make that leap. But taking Michael with him? Good plan. Maybe they can nuke each other in the cell, maybe not, but at the very least when someone releases the Sealed Evil in a Can (Lucifer\Sam) they also release the Sealed Good in a Can (Michael/Adam) that can put a stop to him.

I doubt that death by Michael would be a way out. At least not without taking billions of people down with you, which few people would be all right with causing mass genocide.

As this is also a TV drama, of course it is a given that some heroic sacrifice would be made.

Also in no way is Michael the Sealed Good Can - he is just as responsible for triggering the Apocalypse as everyone else, maybe more so because he had the power to manipulate so many chess pieces necessary to get things rolling. He was not interested in bringing about Paradise, he was interested in fulfilling his Father's Plan.

I agree with you--I liked it but there were some things that just were WTF?!

See, I think I can boil it down into that it was a not-ending. Which in the sense that SPN supposedly tries hard to be realistic about Life, the Universe, and Everything, of course there will be no easy answers.
While at the same time, this is a show where death no longer holds terror because you're instantly brought back, you can get over fourty years of hell trauma in less than a year, and the second most powerful being in the world, Michael, doesn't even have the sense to use his powers instead of just trying to grab Sam/Lucifer as he is falling into the pit.

In short, the amount of enjoyment that I get from SPN is inversely related to how much I think about it. And I think a lot.
