Criminal Minds season finale tonight: Whew! Two hour finale? 2nd night in a row I've had a two hour episode special. This is turning a later night than I planned. But that's okay. I'm glad they didn't try to crunch everything into 1 hour.
The profiling aspect... was pretty much a nonaspect, unfortunately. Just getting that criticism out of the way. It was all about plot contrivance in this regard. The writers needed X to happen, so A B and C were set up to do and say this or that.
Writers, le sigh. You are capable of better. However, I forgive, because of the character moments.
Reid and his magic tricks!
Trouble in paradise for Garcia? Or is she being too paranoid, as has happened in the past. I smell setup for next year.
Jack innocently inviting his dad's girlfriend over for a sleepover... LOL. The look on Hotch's face was awesome. Not often you find him at a loss for words.
Strauss is back, yay! I really like her character, right down to the loving to dislike her political maneuvering, at times. But really, her blunt honesty is refreshing to see.
Glad to see you back.
No you aren't.
She even has a sense of humor buried deep down there inside. :)
Rossi continues to be a busybody -- and bless him for it. Throwing the wedding party for JJ and Will at virtual nonexistant notice was sweet of him. He understands that sometimes it is about seizing the moment and making something happy happen to replace the horror of what could have been.
Morgan and Prentiss... aww, there. Of course Morgan could tell something was bothering Prentiss. She was broadcasting it loud and clear over dragging her feet about buying that house and all her talk about the cracked foundation. Her fit into the team has had a cracked foundation ever since her faked death and return. Sure, they smoothed things over and worked it out, but...
But it only took Hotch one look at her to call her out on her tell. Not pressing her, just addressing the question and letting her know that he basically already has her number, it's just a matter of having that official discussion, at her convenience. No guilt tripping, no judgement.
On final thing: I want to thank the writers for not killing her off. Usually when an actor or actress wants off a show, their character gets killed off in shocking style as a sendoff. Twice now, the writers didn't go there. The door will always be open. It's not always necessary to kill a character to exit that character. Sometimes people move, change their goals, figure out what they want, or that they want something different. This was Emily's case. It made sense to me that it tied into her return, that after everything that happened she wasn't settling back in the way she used to, that the past is something that was still a part of her. Not just her history, but part of her identity. Her ideation. It's not dissimilar to what she has been doing as a profiler. But the scope, scale and politics are different.
Best wishes, Emily Prentiss. I will miss you, and I hope you maybe show up on occasion as a contact or resource on a case if/when needed. That would be awesome.
I am so glad this season ended on a sweet note with the wedding, even if there was that splash of bittersweet to saying an unspoken goodbye at the same time. They see so much ugliness and destruction every day on the job. The team deserves some happiness, and deserve to see that happiness is possible.
