Nice touch on the number 44 in Chinese on the motel room door...plus the four fours that Sam dealt.
4 is a bad, VERY bad number in China, because "four" is pronounce "si" in Chinese, and "si" 四 is homophonous with another character "si" 死, which means death. So Chinese would avoid house numbers, telephone numbers, any kind of number really with a "4" in them like the plague.
