Books. Books were things that held answers. Well, they held a lot of words and within those words could be the answers to the riddles he was looking for.
So find himself at the library he did, and he went tearing through the books at a steady rate. Picking up only ones that he deemed to possibly have an interest in what he was looking for. Forest. Trees. Mountains...Rum? He'll keep that one! And discarding all others on the floor when he did not find any information pertaining to his needs.
Now, what's this? Scrolls? What would be on these scrolls here?
Jack unrolls the first, which apparently was the best.
A map.
Now that was useful.
Jack pockets the map in his overcoat and goes to continue his search for information.
The good captain shrieks and flails, dropping the book he just picked off the shelf. While both shrieking and flailing he turns around to see exactly who startled him so. This only produces another rather unmanly noise that his flailing hands attempt to pluck out of the air and stick back in his mouth where it belongs.
The shrieking doesn't even seem to faze Rem. (He's heard it all before, anyway.) Without taking his unblinking stare off of Jack, Rem sweeps a hand back at the trails of books the pirate left.
"What have you done to my library? Have you no sense of order?"
"Well, yeah, what I meant to say is that it was me, I just wasn't prepared is all. Wasn't ready..y... to pick it all up yet? I wouldn't even know where most of it went."
The pirate stiffens as the fingers of the person turn into rather sharp and pointy objects,"Undoubtedly. Unarguably. Unquestionably. Undisputed." He nods quickly, "Yes! I mean no. I mean yes I will return them!"
He wanted answers. Any answers.

Quickly, silently, Rem slides up behind Jack. He places a hand on his shoulder and grips it.
"Hello."

His gaze drops down to Jack's coat.
"And what have you stolen?"

From the jacket he pulls out the book on making rum, and the simple map scroll.
"See? all safe and secure."

"You shall return them, and they shall be unharmed." He raises one hand, his fingers seamlessly lengthening into claws. "Or you will pay the price."

Rem's claws shift back into fingers, and he points towards the exit.

And with a flurry of various clothes, his poor mother's head and a waft of unpleasant stench... the good captain makes a hasty retreat.
