Sometimes at night he lay in Callie’s bed and tried to stay perfectly still. He was usually too fidgety for this so he settled for not moving his eyes from a random point on the ceiling. He wondered if this was where he was supposed to be or if things with Meredith could work out after all. Maybe they could be happy together and he’d just given up too quickly. But that was an inability to give up long-held dreams rather than accepting reality and he didn’t want that anymore. He was happy now, here, lightly touching a sleeping Callie, and staring at the ceiling.
