Oh the joys of living in an old house. I’ve learned more about boilers and radiators this winter than I thought I’d learn, well, ever. Want to know why your radiator is making that sound? Whether you have a sealed or unsealed pipe system? How many PSI your boiler should be at? I CAN TELL YOU WITH MY KNOWLEDGE.
I have a sealed system, which means that periodically I have to add water to the boiler tank to replace what escapes as steam. If I don’t stay on top of it, the boiler shuts off and it gets very very cold in Stately Wayne manor. This makes no one, including me, my roommate or our various cats, very happy.
Sometimes, air bubbles creep through the pipes and into the radiators, causing a) horrific knocking sounds featured in every scary movie ever made and b) no heat to actually emanate. You have to “bleed” your radiator, a process that’s much less exciting than it sounds. (Basically, you unscrew the pressure valve and let the air bubbles out, leading to more knocking that makes your cats hide in the closets.)
So that was my morning.
I improved my mood, though, by getting some wonderful cover art for The Curse of Four. I can’t post it yet, but trust me when I say it’s gorgeous.
And Bitten By Books is
discussing Bone Gods this week as their book chat. The review is
here.
I have a week left to turn in the zero draft of Devil’s Business, so I’m off.
