I’m going to be at Fantasy Matters in Minneapolis starting tomorrow, and I was informed I had to read for 20 minutes. I’m reading part of chapter 19 and all of chapter 20 from Street Magic, and I just gave it a read trying to work with the accents.

I’ve had some dialect training, but reading in a voice that’s not your own is scary. Knee-knocking scary. I didn’t have much trouble with Pete’s London voice, but Jack is from Manchester and I’m not quite there yet. Maybe on the outskirts. Definitely north of the Midlands. I ended up channeling John Simm a bit, but I think I’m passable, if not fantastic.

And the reading is 17 minutes, which if I slow it down will come out a perfect 20. Would anyone be interested in reading a how-to-read blog? I don’t get stage fright/have tips to manage stage fright or anything exotic, but if the interest is there I’ll blog it when I get back from Minneapolis.

Oh, and I did 1,065 words on Iron & Ice. I need to shake things up, because I’m starting to get bored again.

iron & ice, authors, metrics
